Expression of interest to buy my domain

Hi all,

I hope I'm posting in the correct area. I've had an email expressing interest on a '.com' domain I registered about 2 years ago with the intention to use it, but have just had it parked ever since. The offer has come from a Dutch company on behalf of a client who is an author. They basically want to use my domain to market a book of the exact same name of my domain through the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Through some brief research, I pretty sure the interest is not a scam as both the book, author and company seem legit and professional. I also found they have registered a domain of the same, but ending in '.nl'.

I was wondering if anybody could help on what to expect to get, or at the very least with how to negotiate an acceptable price, keeping in mind that the domain probably has only been ever parked and probably generates little or no traffic. I'm looking into getting a professional appraisal done, but that probably doesn't factor in the needs of this particular buyer which could be in my favour.

I'm a bit reluctant to post the domain at this stage (yes, a little paranoid), but I would really appreciate any help with this :)

Cheers

did they advise you to pay for an appraisal?

this is an appraisal scam. they have no interest in buying your domain whatsoever, and just want you to pay for an "appraisal."

I may be misinterpreting it here, but just who wants a professional appraisal?.

If it's the buyer (Dutch company), than I agree with Shockie, it's smells like an appraisal scam.

If it's the seller wanting an appraisal for gauge the value of his domain, than that's a whole another story.

Back to the question...determination on the value of your domain...I would research similar domain name sales to see what they sold for on average, you could also ask the Dutch company what they are thinking of offering....

Sorry for the misinterpretation, but it's actually myself who is thinking about the appraisal. The buyer has not suggested anything about that. I have read about those scams and I appreciate the warning :tu:

Yeah I was simply going to ask them to make and offer and I'm not expecting too much, but I suppose I just don't want to sell myself short. Certainly the value of the domain will increase dramatically especially if the book is sucessful.

I understand your reason for not posting the domain here.

Well, that's good news. I am happy for you, jimb. This is why I am rethinking my option to sell my domains at this stage for ridiculous prices.

Just let the Dutchman state his offer first, then counter if you think your domain deserves more. You have the upper hand here but study your moves to ensure a resounding victory. It's just like boxing. :)

Set a reserve price to base your later decisions on.
