Hi,

I had 12 domains for parking and selling to Afternic since 02/11/11. As a parking requirement, I changed the nameserver to point to their nameservers. Accordingly, it will take them 1-2 business days before those domains will be parked and listed for sale. It is now 03/03/11 and all my 12 domains are still in the "in process" mode. I tried to type in one of the supposedly parked domains and I'm getting a "Forbidden - 404" error message. Meaning they haven't been parked yet. I e-mailed their "Parking Dept." twice and the "sales/support" dept. once and never received a response from any of them. I haven't called them up yet. I will sometime today and if I never get a good response I will remove all my domains and put them somewhere else (Sedo, Buydomains, etc.). I'm wasting valuable time, money and exposure from them since they are not acting on my domains. I would personally say that some of my domains there are of good guality and I had 2 or 3 of premium ones. This is the first time I deal with them. Kinda frustrating. Anyways, you can ask from some other members. Maybe they have good ones. Hope this helps.

Parking is not mandatory for a listing. I have my domains listed there and parked at bodis.com. They do take time verifying the listing if it is DLS premium.

Visit Afternic's homepage ... what do you see? Or more to the point, what don't you see for sale? Nothing!

For me, Afternic homepage invokes visions of tumbleweeds rolling through a vast plain of nothingness.

Sedo's homepage is lacking too, but at least they have an easily accessible "Market Activity" page, which displays a lot of domains for sale, auctions, recently sold, etc.

Anyways, for promotion of fixed priced / make offer domains, Afternic may be worthwhile utilizing in addition to the other various listing venues, such as Sedo.

For auctions, most anywhere else is better. As of this moment, I can only find 1 active auction on all of Afternic - not a typo, yes just 1 - Afternic auctions is basically dead!

Thanks for all the replies.
If fixed price listings get good exposure through their network and result in sales , then its very good.
Anyone please share the sales experience with afternic.

Afternic pricing is only available in US dollars and if you have a problem, like your domains needing verification, they give you a US phone number to call to, I also had to send via snail mail to the US some kind of tax form.

I rather use Sedo, if only because they allow pricing in other currencies and because the tax form can be sent via email and they don't ask you to snail mail abroad, it now looks as if my snail mail letter to Afternic has been lost, had I sent it via email I would have a copy, I would have saved time, and also money.

I've sold about 8 or so domains @ SEDO just LAST YEAR. I have NEVER sold a domain @ Afternic or even had an inquiry @ Afternic in countless years I've tried them (save for their pretty-much dead Bazaar). Don't use the jokers. Afternic is embarrassingly horrid. I'm embarrassed to say I still have an account but will let it expire. They're for amateurs, I suppose. They are not & never had been the 'real deal.' And they likely never will be.

Calling them to verify domains is a problem I guess.

I thought Afternic will result in more end user sales through their DLS Network.

Have had 100+ dn's at Afternic for a year with views but without a single inquiry. I'd like to think at least a few are decent enough that they should have had some play (many have at Sedo) -- especially when I see some of the ones that get listed in DNJournal's weekly roundup of sales.

I've tried to call Afternic three times and have only ever gotten their voicemail system. Left messages each time and never received a single response. So much for customer service.

Though I'm not overly fond of Sedo, it does gets results.

Just my 2 cents

Over the years I've sold a handful of domains through them. All small sales and just a fraction of what I have sold through other channels. Also, I personally had quite a few incidents of non-paying bidders there, but your mileage may vary.

For me, Afternic homepage invokes visions of tumbleweeds rolling through a vast plain of nothingness.

There are even worse tumbleweeds on other parts of that site...

They seem to cater almost exclusively to the U.S. market, so listing ccTLDs there is a waste of time in my experience.

Well, even my .com's there haven't attracted a lot of attention to put it mildly...

Sedo's multilanguage pages make a huge difference for me because half of my sales are to European buyers. The only thing I don't like about sedo is creating invoices to buyers. I think sedo should do this, not me. However I guess it is still better than filling in some annoying tax form at Afternic. When I saw those tax forms I just closed the page. I can't be bothered with that rubbish.

Thanks for all the replies.
Looking at weekly sales list of Afternic, I was wondering if we could get good results.
Based on all opinions here, it seems tough now.

It might depend on your portfolio. If you have a few category-killers, you might do well at Afternic. Otherwise, they're a joke. I've had decent domains there with paid listing enhancements, and STILL received nary an email of interest.

Even I never had luck with Paid listings.

There should be some reliable way of selling quality domains at a faster rate rather than hoping that end user will come knocking upon.

The best way is truly by looking for potential endusers & trying to close a sale with them. But if you're looking to sell relatively fast, you could use these forums, the NP auction, etc. But don't use eBay unless you're desperate. They're a great place to buy domains from but they're terrible at selling.

Selling on forums will be the last resort .

Would it be rude to inquire about your portfolio? The best way to gauge a domain's value is to post it in a forum & see how much interest your domain receives. Yes, you'll likely get lowball offers but really, if you have a domain listed that receives little to no interest, then you might wanna consider ridding of it. If no one would offer peanuts for a domain, then there isn't much chance it'll have luck elsewhere.

Selling on forums will be the last resort .
