Hi fellow domainers,

On May 24th, I purchased a domain for a total of $5,500, as agreed with the seller. I also paid an additional $188 in escrow and wire processing fees.

Unfortunately, the seller was unaware of the complicated verification procedures required by Escrow.com for companies in Europe, leading to the transaction being canceled. Escrow.com requested that I add the same bank details ending with four specific digits to process the refund. I initially paid for the domain via my bank, which used Wise.com for the international transaction. However, I am not familiar with Wise.com's internal structure and bank details they used to pay to escrow.com on my behalf , escrow keep asking me to add the bank details wise used to pay to escrow.com. Infact escrow.com should simply refund the money to the account it was received from without asking me a single question.

Despite explaining my situation to Escrow.com multiple times, I keep receiving the same automated email asking me to add the account details for the refund. I have responded 10 times, yet the issue remains unresolved.

As a result, I have lost $188 in escrow fees, which Escrow.com refuses to refund. I did not receive the domain and am not getting my full amount refunded.

This has been the worst escrow experience ever. I will be avoiding this company in the future due to the mess it creates for both sellers and buyers.

Support is pretty much lazy and keep sending you same clueless emails, they want to give pain to buyers at every cost.

Support is always clueless , seller was also very unhappy with @Escrow.com They always send you same email and would try to hold your money as long as possible for any possible reason in their minds.

Below is the last email they sent to seller , did any one of you get what they asked for ? Seller also sent them domain ownership proof but i dont know what they asked from seller in below email.

They always want to cancel the transaction but will never refund you escrow fees in case domain is not delievered to a buyer but in my case they even dont want to return my whole money.

Escrow.com is definitely a no go place for domainers as a buyer, even if its not your fault they will not refund escrow fees. Thats strange but in my case they even dont want to pay me transaction money too & asking stupid questions every day.

Update : Escrow refused to issue me a refund. No clear reason indeed. They always send me automated replies. Worst experience. All of my money got stuck and domain not delievered.

I lost $60k with Escrow.com, and Matt Barrie (CEO of Freelancer.com and CEO of Escrow.com) straight out ignored my escalation request.

Thats strange and sad. Escrow.com is one of the worst escrow service for domainers. As a buyer i would avoid them in future.

As far as I'm aware and agree to their terms, escrow.com doesn't refund back any escrow fee which is normal and shouldn't be made any issue on this point because every person dealing with them agrees to this point.

However, this is totally unacceptable if they're not refunding back your money. They can simply send it to some other bank account if they're having an issue with sending it to Wise bank account.

By the way, let me tell you that escrow.com have recently stopped sending funds to Wise.com accounts so possibly that's the reason they're not sending it to your Wise account. But this is not acceptable excuse and they should send it anyway.

although their wording is clever ("has been rated..."), they still deserve a warning like this:

Hi

if you paid the escrow fee and the transaction was cancelled, then escrow keeps the money.

it's why i always ask buyer to pay the fee or in rare case, we will split the fee.

so, there is a reason why they are not issuing a refund.

imo....

Just an update, Escrow.com no longer sends payments to Revolut Bank either, which has a valid European license as any other. I use it because it's a big issue to receive USD payments on my local bank Euros account.
"For compliance and security reasons, Escrow.com is unable to disburse funds to digital bank accounts."
In April it worked fine, but seems things changed when they altered fees as well, but I had no idea of this until the buyer just sent a considerable payment.
