I have been using PP for over a decade. Probably longer. I can't remember when I started using them. I only had one chargeback in all that time. Never suspended.

The fact of the matter is that any transaction provider can suspend you at any time. Even a bank. You have the option of working with them to resolve the issue(s) or bitch about it publicly. The latter will get you nowhere.

The key to success is to develop strong relationships with every provider and build a solid history with them.

I feel that Epik has already burned their bridge with regards to PayPal. Obviously PP doesn't think cutting off Epik will be a loss to them. Frankly, probably the opposite.

That is your take away? A video designed to lift the spirits of those facing mass depression, and some of the most powerful words ever issued by TD Jakes to inspire others, and you somehow find a way to turn it into an all out character attack on Rob Monster?

This forum is precious for its trolls. I actually feel bad for you, as if it is an indication of what lives are really like outside of this forum, I don't even know what to say. Go find someone to help, a family member to encourage, a church needing food donations, or spend more time with your kids. The occupation of working so hard in an attempt to destroy others is not an existence.

I designed that video myself to raise expectations and optimism for a few people I knew that were having a hard week. I thought there would be a few here that may like to see it, while we hold the line fighting battles that most would not even want to know exist.

Be thankful for Epik and the work it does, even while you stay sleeping.

I was thinking it was joseph peterson, who in that blog article, cant remember who, commented about having a letter from jackson to pp about his company.
Would like to read that blog again if someone can put link to make sure i am correct in my choice of words.

Yeah well if that was the case, I'd be working 100 less hours a week. Or more.

You may enjoy this if you need to put a face and a voice to the rantings. This is a recent recording I did while testing out chroma keys and live sound recording for a studio I have here for green screen use. A friend asked me to try doing a slow piano version of a Dire Straights song. This is from my initial sight reading, as I tried to work out keys and the tone I would take.

Nice 'sermon' from the pastor. Unfortunately it doesn't really address the outcast and losers in this world. Those who will never ever make it.

Life ain't a fairly tale. We won't all live happily ever after.

That being said, it's inspirational but I fail to see the relevance to epik losing PayPal as a payment processor. Looking forward to an official update informing your clients.

Nice sentiments. You must be really fun at a party.

It is coming don't worry. The truth will set many free, and expose some as well who are here even in this forum under false pretenses. In the wake of Epik delivering a crippling blow to some of most evil enterprises in our world today, you will always be able to carry the distinct memory of being one of a handful of people that ridiculed and mocked them the entire way.

For the hundreds of positive encouragements, testimonies, and inspirational words we have received privately and direct from everyone else - thank you. May your day be full of miracles and blessings, with the knowledge that there is still much light in the world.

    Love and peace to you.

"Epik delivering a crippling blow to some of most evil enterprises in our world today".

That doesn't sound very ambitious to me. Getting rid of PayPal is easy. Then what?

I think Epik got the crippling blow by losing PayPal and has yet to even formally tell its customers. Maybe if more time was spent fixing problems and less time spent insulting members here there would be less problems. Sending “love and peace” after 4 or 5 insults in a row is a joke.

It is easy to be a downcast cynic, rebuke or engage humor but those who are group selected and be about business to elevate and inspire their contemporaries are worthy of encouragement.

Life is psychology and those who blow wind behind your sails ought to be acknowledged as much.

If you have no sails, then go hug a tree or take a walk.

    Have a blessed day

I've never seen a company so pretentious. If you want to start a motivational/self-help business, go ahead. But don't pretend to sit on a high-horse selling domain names. Mixing religion and politics with business never goes well together.

    Hi

it's a contemplated production, created and posted in an attempt to further distract from the issue.

if you were doing the right things, then you wouldn't be on the defensive all the time.

it's silly for a registrar to go to extremes of video productions, under the guise of uplifting spirits of your supporters.

and it's offends the intelligence of those who are customers, who don't support the politics, and still waiting for answers around this issue.

    imo....

I actually just watched this. Love or hate for Epik/Rob aside, it’s a great short inspiring video. YOU DO make a difference! I personally know someone very close to me with depression so it’s important to tell them on a regular basis that they make a difference in life and YOUR life!

Anyone know the speaker in this video? Almost sounds like TD Jakes.

    Thanks for sharing @Intelliname

It is the voice of TD Jakes,

    It was first posted here:

That was on October 2 -- long before this ham-fisted move by PayPal.

Some of you know first hand that @Intelliname is gifted and productive. He followed a prompt (not from me) to produce a video to encourage people who are dealing with challenging circumstances.

Focus on the good, folks. We reap what we sow.

It depends on who I'm surrounded with.

Yeah... so now anybody who doesn't agree with you on your ongoing flame wars against other companies and employees, attacking them personally, is looked upon as mocking and ridiculing Epik?

    You need a reality check.

It's not even about taking sides. Maybe PP treated you unfairly. No way for me to know. What I do know is that the way you guys continuesly seek to go at war with other companies appals me.

In business, you don't create change by burning bridges, you realise it by seeking common grounds and building bridges.

Building bridges and combining forces for the better is what some of the leading companies in this industry are doing at the moment. They're creating real change and I forsee a big shift in this industry in 2021 because of that. It will happen sooner than later.

Meanwhile at Epik, you're abandoning all that you stand for. Peace, love, Christian values, down to the point where you're openly attacking your own clients on a forum.

Nobody needs Epik because they're extraordinary, they're not. Nobody needs Epik because they're great, they're not. Nobody needs Epik because they're cheap, they're not.

    Nobody needs Epik.

People were drawn to epik because of the support, approachability of the CEO, helping out when it matters, values. None of that will matter when you cannot take criticism from your clientbase and resort to the same personal attacks you chose to fight the 'evil corporate world'.

As someone who has been kicked by their Registrar I disagree.

Lots of replies in this thread about the behavior and philosophy of Epik. And I get it. Rob tends to be "preachy" and does mix his business with his faith. But looking past that into the issue of Paypal cutting his account over one of his customers should be viewed as a huge problem.

I'd like to know if Epik's questionable customers pay with Paypal. My guess is that they do not. I just don't see where Paypal has any right to tell any business who they can do business with. That's what this is about. And Epik didn't start this battle.

Do members here believe it's the right thing to do for Epik to kick their customer? Just imagine you're an Epik customer and you get this email:

"Dear company, you have one week to move all your domains from our service. We are permanently closing your account as of DATE due to a Paypal policy violation."

And there is always someone with "been with Paypal 15 years never had a problem"...until they do. I was with Paypal since 99 and did probably more than a million in payments over the years. The fact is that Paypal is so huge they don't need any single account. If paypal was so great, why doesn't Amazon or Netflix accept them?

Meh...Meh...election day. World falling apart too damn fast...almost time to expat.

Solid point. I've been kicked out by my registrar in the past so know what it's like.

Small oversight on my part. They are a registrar that doesn't mind, let's say, more or less controversial domains. Big pro.

The only issue I have with them is that they don't seem to take criticism well. And it's getting worse. I don't like how PayPal handles closing of accounts without giving reason. I don't blame them for being pissed off.

    Everything else is just ridiculous.

You too? btw, had someone contact me about being kicked from a Registrar.

I was kicked from Uniregistry when Godaddy bought it. I assume they did an audit of customers and domains upon purchase. I was told to move one week before the sale was public.

When you have a successful business depending on another service it can be a very scary situation when that service shows a bias. My entire family depends on the income of my business. Unfortunately running an online business relies on things like a Registrar, hosting, and payment services like Paypal.

It's not a free market society if there are no choices in business that understand freedom.

    Just my two cents...

I despise using paypal...only when there is no other option do I use their 'services'.

As far as Epik goes, I used a credit card to get started back in the day but once sales started I used the money that was deposited into the masterbucks. The paypal thing is just a convenient way for some folks to pay, I think, assuming the fast pay options on the phone app.

If someone is worried about using a credit card for payment with any registrar, they should not use them for storing their assets anyway.

I think it will deter a few buyers of relatively low figure sales in their marketplace (BTW my landers at Epik still seem to show PayPal as option - surely that should be changed unless they feel they will get a rapid reversal?).

I use PayPal almost daily for something, finding it a convenient way to move funds around to where I need them, and to collect small amounts directly, and pay for various services. Like @Mister Funsky I tend to leave funds in MasterBucks, and similar at other registrars, to use for purchases and renewals, so won't directly influence that.

I certainly hope that Epik and NameBio get their PayPal access back. I tend to agree with Michael's blog post view that as for NameBio this probably was triggered at Epik by one or more specific domain sales, and has nothing to do with politics. I could be wrong, of course, but the simplest explanation is usually the best. I am concerned with the appeal process as Michael relays it. You have one email chance to make your case. I am also concerned with the attitude, around for years long before these cases, that when they close your account they do not tell you why.

I have not tried the other options for withdrawing money. It is always good to have as many choices as possible. I use PayPal for withdrawl at DAN, Afternic, Sedo, and like to be able to use it for all registrars and marketplaces I deal with. I actually changed where I registered a name based on PayPal access. I was going to register at Sav, but when I found out I could not use my PayPal funds, I instead used a different registrar.

There are of course many other payment options. I have used PayPal for decades, though, find it works well, and prefer to have that option everywhere I pay for things or receive payments online.

I hope this all gets resolved. #LessDrama please.

    Bob

Yes. It's a nuisance to deal with. Especially as I rented the servers with the same company (rookie mistake, long time ago) so needed to get a new DC as well. Could have been a combo of issues they had. Was getting a lot of DDOS attacks so...

That being said, most slightly controversial domains will be safe with the better known registrars. But there are always some gray areas where it wouldn't hurt to be with a registrar willing to go the extra mile.

That's where I think Epik has a solid product offering. They offer an out of the box resilient setup.

Epik has some unique things going for it, it would be a great loss for the domaining industry if the service closed.

Forum sites are especially vulnerable to the whims of registrars because there can be thousands of people making comments. Registrar plays god and says they don't like a statement and boom the site is kicked off.

I sleep a lot better knowing Epik is there if I need them.

Oh don't get me wrong. I like what Epik has to offer and wish them nothing but to grow and succeed. For me, Epik works. Unique and something the domain industry cannot find elsewhere? Debatable.

But let's not derail the thread subject too much and turn it into another pro/con Epik thread.

Bottom line is, they lost one of their payment processors, neglected to give their clients a heads up but instead issued an insane statement and started attacking people who have been critical about these kind of business tactics.

That's what I have an issue with.
