eNom's transfer out is horrible - GoDaddy's the best?

I've been transfering a bunch of domain names away this week and I have to say after 5+ years of using eNom - their transfer out process absolutely sucks. It's completely passive and waits for the 5 days before letting the domain name go.

On the other hand, regardless of all that I dislike with GoDaddy, their transfer system is hands down the best with active confirmation to accelerate the transfer. I can literally transfer a domain name in 2 hours. It's fantastic.

So just out of curiosity, who else has an active (non-passive) transfer out like GoDaddy? Anyone? I am not sure if it's laziness or lack of programming skill or some other reason I can't fathom but everyone should do it like them.

I know Register.com is passive like eNom. How about Directi/Resellerclub. How about OpenSRS? I'd like to hear about any of the major "reseller" registrars...

I completely agree about eNom vs. Godaddy transfer-outs!
In fact, I was just about to write about it

I had two .info domains, one registered at eNom and one registered at Godaddy. I was able to complete the transfer from Godaddy to another registrar in under an hour. On the other hand, eNom didn't even bother sending me an email so I could expedite the transfer process any and I had to wait the full several days for the transfer to go through.

GoDaddy's good about this. Moniker is also.

But why the rush?! Personally I like the 5 days as it means that if someone illegally transfers out one of my valuable names then I have the ability to be away over the weekend but come back and cancel the transfer later.

Dynadot transfer out is awesome! Once the transfer has been initiated and the auth. code entered at the gaining registrar, Dynadot send an email with a link. Once accepted, transfer occurs almost instantly! No five day wait.

though it is good to protect against someone taking our domains ..i thinks that auth code is a good enough feature to protect ur domain....

GoDaddy is a good one. I've got no problems with Domainsite either.

I couldn't agree more! What is the rush? For the last year I have been transferring domains from bulkregister (enoms bulk account) to Fabulous every couple of weeks. No problem, and I *like* the five day delay.

I prefer the 5 day wait too. It's more secure.

The downside with godaddy is the silly 60-day transfer lock when you change domain details. Obviously it's a customer retention ploy. Nothing to do with security since you can otherwise expedite a transfer out in 45 minutes.

I've noticed virtually all of my enom transfer out emails are sent between 1:01am and 1:11am EST. They must run a big batch at that time.

With the sheer number of domains they manage it's downright irresponsible to not run that process a few times per day, and much sooner than waiting five days.

For those saying they like 5 days to catch fraud, that's why registery level locking was invented. Somewhere between 45 minutes and 5 days is a better answer. 48 hours to catch fraud would be fine. 5 days is a huge hassle.

eNom is fustrating, I am glad to be leaving them.
I am also sick of GoDaddy's endless ads and click throughs, so bye-bye GoDaddy!

It's also arguably completely illegal under ICANN laws. But ICANN seems to be letting everyone get away with everything these days as long as they get their fees. As far as retention, it would make me so mad that not only would I transfer out that domain after 60 days, I'd transfer out ALL the domains.

I like manage.snapnames.com and mydomains.com because you can assign a auth code, there is no need to keep track hundreds of different auth codes.

I believe any opensrs reseller let's you also change your auth codes, which is nice.

I wouldn't keep them all the same however, unless you can easily change them all at once again, when you sell/transfer one.

I think the five day wait is more a customer retention ploy than it is to protect the domain name owner against fraud. I myself am leaving enom, and am very happy to be almost rid of that nasty company.

Actually Enom has same, they also send link, you can click, select "approve" and it's transfered right away

All registrars are required by icann to send the approval link.
The catch is they are not required to do it for like five days.

Enom doesn't send the link for five days. They sit on it.

So GoDaddy and Dynadot are the only ones with active acknowledgement. All others seem to wait for the 5 day timeout.

Maybe, depending on the registrar. In my past registrar life, though, we have
received some cases of transfer disputes within the 5-day window.

That 5-day window allowed us (and some registrars) to possibly prevent any
unauthorized transfers. Working with memory, we eventually confirmed many
while we finally denied a few.

Denying those few did save the customers from losing their domains, and had
saved us time and effort dealing with those that could've been better spent
elsewhere.

Again, if you have register lock on (and you should) it doesn't matter how short the timeout window is - the transfer will never complete. 48 hour timeout would be fine for passive acknowledgement. Heck even 72 hours at the outside.

120 hours means you aren't doing your job watching what's going on if you lose something.

Someone at eNom must be reading my threads. For the past two weeks, transfer outs have only taken 3-4 days. Much better!
