ridiculous lawsuit, feels like a strongarm way of trying to take the domain away.

it is a retirement company who's heavy focus is on the much older demographic. So I can see why they want the .com so badly

"The retirement goliath (Empower Retirement) has sued Empower Geographics, Inc. and its president for threatening to sell the Empower.com domain to competitors β€œand professional cybersquatters.”.......

The for sale landing page is something else - https://empower.com

The case link is below

I love the list of who they are going to outbound to and how they are going to do it.

I hope that Great-West Life and annuity get their asses handed to them. All of the 7 figure sales for names in the same range can't help their case that they should get it for way less than it's worth.

Yes. Take away

A testimonial to the benefits of a marquee domain…

Watching this with interest.

β€˜Empower’ is a word in the English dictionary ie:- in the public domain/belonging to the people and with that no one having a right to claim they 'own' that word (generic), so β€˜Empower Retirement’ claiming they have a right to this word in English dictionary and it belongs to them is quite frankly arrogant and basically an attempt to steal it without compensating the current and legitimate owner of the .com and seems β€˜hall of shame’ worthy to me, especially since there are also many companies called β€˜empower’ too.

I did not spot this but Paul Shaw did and left a comment on TLDinvestors.com

Main issues here are wildcarding email and collecting other parties emails, then using it as a sales pitch, as well as focusing on customer confusion, talking about selling to a competitor etc.

This is going to be a very ugly case in my view as they seem to have been targeting the other party. It will not be any kind of slam dunk. They will need very strong representation to avoid losing the name.

this detail you just mentioned definitely makes the situation a lot more complicated
