Elon Musk teased a possible Twitter competitor if he isn't forced to go through with the $44 billion deal.

Musk responded to a question on Twitter as to whether he'd launch his own site by simply tweeting"X.com" on Tuesday. The comment came after it was revealed that the billionaire had sold 7.92 million Tesla shares worth $6.9 billion ahead of the very real chance he could be forced to purchase Twitter.

"In the (hopefully unlikely) event that Twitter forces this deal to close *and* some equity partners don't come through, it is important to avoid an emergency sale of Tesla stock," Musk said about the sale on Twitter.

I think 3 or 4 of the 1 letter .com's are still working, you can no longer register any, but the few that were are grandfathered in unless they expire, they won't be renewed. Musk is not an Internet guy, he was involved in Paypal early on, but his level of coding was doing a simple video game as a kid, he could hire coders, but, he's not a coder in any way.

Elon Musk is self made... sure he came from an extremely wealthy family, sure he got billions and billions of tax-payer subsides to keep his company a float for more than a decade until they finally turned a profit...after further consideration maybe he is not that "self made".

I don't think Elon Musk really has any clue how hard running a social media site is. It seems like a lot of his views are quite naive.

Before buying Twitter he spoke about starting his own. I think he figured out that it's not easy to start so he went the buying route. Twitters censorship, especially one sided censorship was also part of a trigger.

You probably won't believe it but it was my idea regarding Twitter alternative on xdotcom domain. It was my suggestion (to build his own social network on xdotcom) to Elon Musk on twitter a few months ago.

Tbh i think he will keeping this domain for Mars base/project (a new home for human race in 2050).
