this is scary news. I wonder what sort of registrar has such security lapse for such a high profile site. i dont think there is is much hope for small timers!!!

He should not have been arrested. He asked for the domain via a transfer and the idiot at ebay apporved it (or it never asked them). He didn't steal the domain, he just asked for it.

Seems like a hack job, if I ever saw one

Its not hijacking.

He just requested a transfer which was granted. There was a consent from both parties which cannot be termed as hijacking.

okay...

1) hijacking is not the same thing as hacking

2) hacking is not the same thing as asking to have admin rights on something that isn't yours

3) hiring inexperienced morons to manage and staff your customer service (if you're a registrar, for example) is libel to get you into this kind of mess

You can't blame the kid for trying I mean geez he's what, 19 years old ??

The registrar should have known better than to transfer the domain to him without verifying it first.

so much free opinions; I'm going to bed...

At least there are a couple people that agree with me in saying that he didn't really do anything illegal.

???

i think it is wrong becuse he doesnt own it. it is true that whatever moron staff did, he still dont have a right to it!

its just like asking a kid to surrender his father car keys and he does it!!

you have no right to to the car!! 8-X

for fun... that sounds a little childish for something this big.

I don't think he should be arrested, I think charges should be against whoever approved the transfer.... If I asked for google's domain name, and they give it to me, did I do anything illegal?
