The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
@DomainRecap : The auction at WHC also adds 3 minutes for any bid within 3 minutes of the deadline just like at Sibername, but the main time for the auctions on the page counts down to 2 pm. Each individual domain has an indicator for when the auction is extended though and it shows how much time is left for that domain.

Are you using the site on a mobile? Did you refresh the page?

@DomainRecap : If it jumped by an hour though, I'm wondering if we're using the wrong timezone someplace, I'll double-check that.

Here is the image from a certain LLL auction today, and I was watching it (I wasn't prepared to bid over $500 so it was just to see how high it went) when the Time Left hit Zero at $1150 with no new bids. Then the tiny left timer went to 0 m 0 s... then it reset to 60 m 0 s and the bid was still at $1150. I refreshed multiple times to make sure.

I watched it for about 15 minutes after (the image shows less than 8 minutes gone) not knowing what was going on, and I closed it assuming the auction was over. Then I get an email at 3:30 stating the auction ended at $1200.

I'm a bit confused at how these timers and clocks work and how much extra time is added, etc.

I think you might be onto something there, and potentially with the daylight savings change, the system may think that auctions now end at +1H or 3PM EST.

I really hate when we add an hour for Daylight Savings, as it's always a crapshoot which TBR Registrars will move their deadline ahead and which will not. On their websites, they always keep the 1:40-1:50 EST times the same year-round and I need to start keeping a notebook handy on which ones actually jump an hour.

I bid on some that used to maintain the 1:XX EST time, while holding back on others that usually do not, and I was only about half-right because naturally, these guys have no clue what's going on and either forgot about DS (making next week another crapshoot) or changed their policies sometime during the year.

As predicted, a few TBR registrars that used a 2:45 deadline last week bizarrely switched back to 1:45 for this week... I have no words for this rank unprofessionalism.

Somebody buy these guys a copy of that Golden Book titled "How to Tell Time"!

All figured out and fixed, yes.

Yeah, I see that the mini spinning left-clock is no longer there through the entire auction, and I suspect it will only pop up when time is extended.

Looks a lot better, but last week was a real visual treat with all the moving parts. :xf.grin:

Right on schedule we have a winner (or loser)! A registrar, who shall remain nameless, started off the Daylight Savings Time by ending bidding at 2:45 the first week. Then the next week it dropped down to 1:45 and I missed out bidding.

Now this week it seems to be back at 2:45 and everyone and their dog bid early thinking it was closing at 1:45. Who the F knows what time these whackos are going to halt bidding next week. 2:17?

I'm not sure if $2K pre-auction is a modern record, but it's the highest I've seen in a while... Lots of money flying around this week in a premium-filled WHC-Siber TBR Domain Hotlist:

I don't think I've ever seen a TBR week like this in terms of the pre-auction prices, and there have been weeks when quality has easily surpassed these domains. It seems buying expired .CA has really taken off with the cool kids.

Warning: If you are susceptible to NOSEBLEEDS then DO NOT read this list.

For those who haven't checked out the TBR this week, and personally witnessed the biggest deluge of quality LLLs that I've ever seen, it's truly a sight to behold.

Years from now we'll all refer to this as Bankruptcy Week, as I'm certain even the biggest whales can't swallow all of the LLLs on this week's menu. Get ready for a ride!

Is anyone else getting a mass of "Contact Information Updated" emails for .CA domains held by Baremetal?

Nothing seems to have changed in terms of the registration info, but it's still a bit jarring.

Answer: Tom at BM just let me know that it's because 3 of their 5 registrars is being amalgamated into Baremetal, so the CIRA is sending out "update emails" because there has theoretically been an update, but in reality there has been no actual change.

Delete the emails and move on.

There is another forum dedicated to .ca

Not sure that I am allowed to link it here. But all the .ca community is there.

Here's the WHC Hotlist so far this Wednesday morning.

Along with the obligatory HARD.ca, which is the lone premium of the week, some others caught my eye:

Moes.ca - tough one that I had one my initial list, but these Names + S domains look good but they never sell. There are lots of Moe's XYZ businesses, but I have quite a few similar "name's" from .CA sales and they never sell, likely because the companies are usually very small and don't give a crap about spending $$$$ for a shorter domain.

Rudsak.ca - Stranger Danger! This is a serious TM risk and it used to forward to Rudsak.com before the company inadvertently dropped it. This not a word and not a generic term, so while I assume the bidder is hoping to make a few bucks by "returning it", you're just as likely to receive a CDRP.
