I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

Holy Crap! It's Sears week at the TBR!

Yep, all their promo site URLs are starting to drop.

Hopefully never happens to Canadian Tire..
I don't think they'll be dropping their recently acquired Triangle.com any time soon :xf.wink:

Holy crap, 282 TBR domains selected... is that a "recent memory" record?

75 Sears names lol, probably still some link juice?

Yep, and I debated putting those on my TBR picks, but I try to stay away from blatant TM-related stuff like that if I can.

It's not like you can create a new site from it, and I tend not to trust old promo URLs for traffic.

I did a search on the page for "Sears", and only found 74 - is there another that doesn't include the name?

Only advantage (that I can think of) of dropped names (Sears) is if I had a merchandise site, acquire the ones that I have categories for and redirect them to that category....But hard to say how long "Google values" these link.
But I also stay away from "TM"

Just curious, when a company allows a domain to drop what does that actually mean for the TM? If I pick up that domain as long as I don't use it for anything blatant wouldn't that be ok?

While potentially viable for SEO juice, it's ultimately not worth the TM headache.

Who knows, it all depends on whether the current TM holder of Sears cares enough to enforce it, but that is still their right, even if it was dropped. If they ever want any of these "Sears" domains back later, they would just file a UDRP and say "Ooops, we dropped it by mistake" like every other moron firm does.

In this case, you're probably safe, but I don't see the utility outweighing the TM negatives and the knowledge that no one is going to buy it.

Wouldn't be surprised, if there are lawyers right now watching the outcome of the TBR and making notes...Domainers aren't the only ones, who think of the future..

Exactly. There are always these HUGE Traffic and Inbound link/SEO metrics, which happens to be 6 months to a year old (or worse, totally faked) and when you finally get it linked, your traffic amounts to 5-10 hits a day, if that.

Yep, keep chasing those ambulances boys, keep chasing those ambulances....

The TM's aren't worth the headaches. Disregarding the legalities and the technical BS it's just bad juju. Profiting off the bones of what others have built will come around.

Agreed, but what I really hate is when lawyers way overstep their bounds and start harassing you.

Hypothetically speaking, let's say BLUE is my favorite color and I have some extra cash around and buy Blue.ca. Not long after, let's hypothetically say I get a letter from a corporation's lawyer offering up all manner of email threats (yeah, like these pencil necks would ever say this to my face) screaming that "Blue is our registered trademark" when in reality it's a freaking colour that's been around centuries before he was a stain in his Daddy's shorts....

Corporations love to threaten and harass and lie - i.e. the generic word "Blue" by itself is not trademarkable.

The above is all hypothetical (the names and domains have been changed to protect the guilty) but this crap happens all the time, and while I agree with your point (and I would never premeditatively buy a TM domain), I don't exactly feel bad about some of these evil corporations getting a big dose of karma back (from their bad juju) by domainers picking at their rotting corpse.

So pick away boys and don't leave anything behind!

I know that Sears has not been a good company, ethically speaking. Raiding their employees pension to pay off their creditors is their biggest sin in my eyes. For that alone they deserve to have their meat picked, let alone their bones. It's reprehensible behaviour.

There may be a price to pay for participating in that kind of behaviour though. Rarely a week goes by that I don't get called a "squatter" or a "domain name scammer", usually with an efn or two in there somewhere as well. That kind of activity can have a far reaching impact on the industry as a whole. In any case that kind of activity is not for me.
