I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
And just an FYI that going forward, the TBR Weekly Picks are looking like they may be taking an extended break. I just don't have the time on Monday and Tuesday nights to do this anymore, and while a subscription list would be more manageable, I don't want to start charging people during a pandemic.

Rock -- > ME <-- Hard Place

No worries @DomainRecap , these are tough times for everyone

@Spex Thanks for the recommendations!

I signed up at Siber and Namespro both, but Siber needed to manually verify account so I went with Namespro, got my bids in, this is exciting haha. My first TBR!

I noticed that a TBR backorder is $50 at Dynadot for example, would that be the equivalent of "bidding" $50 at Namespro, or is Dyna just bidding a lower amount on my behalf and pocketing the difference? What happens if someone does a TBR backorder at Dyna for $50, but the name gets bid higher at Namepros or somewhere else - does it automatically go to the higher place, or is that ONLY if Namespro catches it? For example, there's a $250 name on Namespro right now - if someone had backorderd that for $50 on Dyna is there any chance they get it, or never? I hope these questions makes sense lol...

PS - any guesses on which name is bid up to $250?? (Sorry if this is bad form to discuss lol)

Hi @Peak.Domains , i'm not an expert on TBR so take this for what's it worth.

Just because a name is already at $250 at Namespro doesn't mean Namespro is guaranteed to get it. If the number is high, then the registrar might prioritize it, but that doesn't stop another registrar from scooping it. If you look at the weekly TBR results (https://www.sibername.com/tbr/results.php), names are scooped up in milliseconds so it all comes down to timing, luck and like a I said prioritizing.

Plus, some registrars have multiple connections to the TBR. So if you look at the link I mentioned above, you'll see MyID got 4 names in 0.012 seconds before Sibername had a chance to catch their first name

@Spex Awesome, thank you!

So, ideally, one might want to try placing TBR orders in a few different places to increase their odds, if it's a name they really want?

And the gamble here comes down to whether or not anyone else even wants the name, because it could just drop and be purchased for reg-fee instead...

Yes, bidding at multiple TBR registrars certainly increases your odds, but it could also a) increase your price or b) get the domain noticed on the bid lists and cause you to lose it. The more bids you place, the greater heat you put on that domain and the more potential for competition.

It's a dangerous world out there... for a TBR bidder.

We're doing okay in most ways, and one of my kids even has a live government co-op job, but free time is constantly shrinking. There is just more to do (more dishes, more meals, more garbage, more cleaning up, etc.) and less and less time to do it.

It's like running a zoo, except you're related to the animals.

Side note... anyone else not getting notifications about posts in this thread? I was just browsing this morning and I missed like a week's worth of posts

That happens to me quite often. There must be a glitch. I sometimes miss 2 or 3 days if I don’t actually look for this thread myself.

Yep, you need to Unwatch and then Watch the thread again.

Anybody know what happens if you ignore an offer made on Sedo?

I received an offer on a TBR domain that I acquired recently, which is still well under the 60-day lock. The offer is a lowball but I'm not really sure what to do... and the email from Sedo says I must respond with at least 1 counter-offer before I can cancel the negotiation.

I believe Sedo would cancel the sale even if we reached a deal, since they don't do pushes and the domain cannot be transferred for another 5+ weeks.

This happens to me all the time, and I just leave it sitting there until the 60-day lock is over - all Sedo means is you can't close negotiations, but others can still bid and you can sell it elsewhere, etc..

One time a Sedo bidder kept raising it every few weeks and we later agreed to a sale.

i usually hit them with a reasonable counter offer and if things work out sedo holds the money until the lock is off. they then make contact and request an auth code and things move along. same with gd.

So I can just ignore the offer completely? I don't have to respond?

I have not had this experience with Sedo, and when I asked, they said they cannot transfer and hold .CA domains (as a .CA Registrar, GD can) and that the buyer is under no obligation to complete the sale XX days later.

And sure, Sedo could work it out with a buyer on a case-by-case basis, but I would not be sending out Sedo counters willy nilly on .CA domains you just registered.

Nope, I just let 'em sit there until the lock is over. I have 2 like that right now.

I have transferred several .ca Domains to another person with in a week or two of me picking the name up, I think it is Registrar dependent? As long as the registrar isn't changing just the registrant it is workable. So pushing a name to someone else with in the same registrar seems to work.

I haven’t heard of being able to transfer within 60 days but have been able to push domains within the 60 days

Anyone have any predictions for today? I quickly looked at the list and didn't see anything that stood out so I have no idea.

Just from a quick perusal, I was thinking KNI or KLO for 3-letters, or EMIGRATION for 1-words, but that last one was way off. Whoever got that got a steal.

Happy to report that I got my name!

Huge thanks to the help and guidance from everyone in this thread, dating back to over a couple of weeks ago when I first searched for this name and saw that it had been taken, then I noticed it had juuuust expired, then learned about TBR, then waited for it to show up on the list... and finally it's mine :)

Just an FYI that this forum is not to promote or sell your domains, and there are specific areas on NP for those purposes.
