The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Just a note that due to a pile of inside and outside appointments (that I have so far extended til the final days) I probably will not be posting a TBR Report this week, or in a best case scenario, a stripped-down version.

Can anyone think of a company using a .ca to sell internationally? I've got a small sale that might be riding on a couple of examples.

Here's a weird one:

fashionably.ca

Just registered this February, but already dropped - maybe a threat from a company?

I doubt it, who would drop a dictionary word due to any threat? Even the .com isn't developed.

More likely it is either:

a) the registrant failed a RIV (registrant information validation)

b) the registrant picked it up in TBR, failed to pay for it, and the registrar requested a refund and now its finally going back into TBR.

Yeah, I was thinking b) as well, but I didn't think it took that long.

Has anyone developed a .CA travel/tourism site, for a Canadian area, with affiliate or other types of income streams? If so I'd love to hear about it and ask some questions

There's a .ca I just looked up, it was taken, then I did a whois and it expired in early April of 2020.

I looked at CIRA's TBR list and didn't find it there.

From the expiration date listed in whois, how long until I might expect to see the name on the TBR? It's at GoDaddy if that makes a difference (I searched their auctions and didn't see it there either.)

I think it's a toss-up as to whether or not this name gets picked up by someone else, I could see it slipping through. It wasn't registered until 2019 and then it was let go after a year.

I'd like to keep an eye out for it in case it goes to auction but I don't really know the timeline/where to look.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The entire whois appears to be redacted, I was going to consider offering the owner $50 for it if they're just letting it drop (I realize that could also backfire, tho, but this name does have some value to me...)

Thanks!

Around 45 days I think.

One of my names expired March 29 and it's in this week's TBR

@DomainRecap

Thank you! So, from the expiration date listed on the whois, it's due to hit TBR anytime between 30-75 days?

Does GoDaddy have a standard "suspended" timeframe or it could just be anywhere within the 0-45 window?

Do you know if there's any way I can check where a specific name is at in this process, or is that just for the registrar/registrant to know?

So, it's been about a month since the expiration date so I guess I shuold just make a daily habit to check the TBR hey?

Thanks again!

And thanks everyone else for the info - I appreciate ya!

Yes, and it can vary a bit by Registrar. All you can do is keep checking, but like Spex said, 45 days is a good ballpark.

Just for fun:

A dozen .ca'rs go to a pub for drinks. Everyone submits their best 3 business names - any industry. A winner is chosen. All contribute $1000 for 8.25% of the new company. We build a killer business and tell our story that we started with a $12000 domain name.

Anyone thirsty?

Well, I know you said "just for fun", but, that sounds like a lot of cooks in the kitchen... And would the $12K go to buy the chosen domain from its owner? So that would be more like "submit your 3 best domains that you're willing to sell for $12K". And then do you raise more money to develop?

And we're off.

Sorry for not posting the TBR List this week, but it was a madhouse of appointments - I needed to pick up a new work laptop, sign a bunch of stuff, drive my daughter to her summer co-op starter appointment, etc. and I thought I would lose it if late-night TBR sessions also on the table.

Should be back and running next week and I may try to cobble together a TBR Leftovers list from what I compiled for myself. We'll see.

Well I spent the last few hours compiling this for the faithful that I let down today, and there are quite a few choice ones left:

To Be Released (TBR) .CA Results & Leftovers for May 6

The overall TBR domain total increased a bit to just over 9K, but the reason for the big jump in selection numbers was an influx of aged domains, with most being single and multi-words and even a few significant keywords. Of the top 10 picks, the more notable ones included...

Before You Embark on a Journey of TBR Leftovers, Bring Two Forks

262 Picks - Now that's a List!

I see ASSEMBLER.CA was taken - I couldn't believe that wasn't selected on the TBR run.

Over the last few days, I have noticed some really long awful .ca domains being used in T.V. ads. I think I saw one today it was between 4-5 words, I'm going to start writing some down, keep a bit of a list going for laughs.
