People talking about this in coffee shop too

email from namespro.ca yesterday regarding expiring .ca
Trying a scare tactic to get a person to renew.

Dear momd,

You are receiving this message because your domain, *****.ca, has expired since 27 January 2019 (25 days ago). There has been no renewal performed on your part and as a result, this domain is about to be deleted permanently by the central registry. What this means is that this domain will be released to the public and become available for registration again by anyone. As a soon-to-be previous owner, this deletion may create various potential issues for you if your domain is re-registered by a malicious user. Some common problems may include:
========================================================================
a) infringement of your trademark :xf.eek:
b) hosting of explicit or discriminating content on your deleted domain :unsure:
c) harvesting of your residue traffic for profit through questionable advertising. >:(
========================================================================
Undoubtedly, these probable actions would have very damaging effects on yourself or your business. From our experience, it is extremely costly and time-consuming (and not always possible) to re-acquire a previously owned domain when these problems occur. As such, we strongly suggest maintaining the ownership by renewing the domain in order to protect yourself from any undesirable and unforeseeable situations.:hurting:

Please be advised that the standard grace period for renewing an expired domain is 30 days. If you do decide to renew this domain, you are advised to do so within the next 5 days to avoid any complications. Below are the steps to renew your domain:
========================================================================
1) Please visit - http://www.namespro.ca/Renew.asp

I don’t think it is a scare tactic at all. They send you a couple of reminders before that one and I think they want to express the urgency that you will lose the name on a certain date if you don’t renew it.
I think they are probably tired of the “what happened to my domain” emails they get from people not renewing and losing names.
I get these often as I do tend to run some to the wire but I think you and I know what is happening with expiring names and play the expiry game sometimes. People that aren’t in the business often get upset when they lose a name because they didn’t renew on time.

Just my take on it as I have done biz with them for 15 years and always found them to be very straightforward.
That said perception can be relative.

About $1500, it’s a decent name, but the way things work with mail order, it is difficult to use in that sense as those are regulated systems that need an intermediary. Otherwise it may have substance but since online sales are reseved it really knocks down the value.

aba.ca is at $500 at Sibername right now.
grow.ca had a minimum of $5000 just before the TBR. Namespro also had it up to $5000. MYID had several bids for it as well.

I'm hoping we have a new player in the TBR space.
Definitely, but there is something we might forget in all this - TBR registrars like MyID, Siber, POOL, etc, are *supposed* to be buying these domains for end users, and tailoring their server requests towards buyer interest and bid amounts rather than how much they think they'll get i

I realize that it probably doesn't happen like it should, but we're talking like MyID is eBay and Siber is Amazon (maybe they are?), with each trying to get the most lucrative inventory to resell without any regard to customer orders.

All domain auction houses are the same, profit first, customers last.

Willing to keep the domain for years.
Cannabis in Canada is still in it's infancy.

Welcome seller, This was one of the first domains to close in auction, there wasn’t much of a fight for the auction in the end. Only issue is provincial regulators are keeping the online, and other lucrative outlets for themselves. If that wasn’t that case you might be onto something, but regulations are tight.

Grow
Is a bargain at 5k

Ban?.... Not sure how much commercial worth it would have. I personally would not pony up on it.
