I hope this is not considered off topic, but thought this would be a good place to ask what Canadians are going to be at NamesCon2019. After thinking I was not going, have changed my mind, and I will be there. Would love to meet face to face some others that I have met online here.

Also did anyone try submitting .ca domains to the auction? I presume they were not very open to such domain names.

I know of at least one Canadian that has non-.ca domain names in the auction, but wondering about .ca in itself.

Looks like the TBR run is all done, and this will be a very interesting week to see what is left over.

Yes, and if you have a teenage daughter or you've ever been to a mall, you know why that's true :)

Actually, I sold CreditCards.ca for more.

Yes, I hope my daughter can use my portfolio as an easy side income some day too. Hopefully they don't just liquidate it for a small fraction of its value when I die! Or worse yet let them expire.... That's why I need to teach her as much as I can in the next couple years about the business...

Yes true but jobs is probably the most quoted sale on the .ca side.

I have gone in the past. Not going this year - its always right around my wife and my birthdays so we have alternate plans. I went to all of the domain shows in the early days, including the very first TRAFFIC in 2004. After a while you don't really get much out of them, lots if B.S. going on, I really lost interest once they started being so focused on the new gtlds. If you're itching to go to Vegas, its a way to write if off. It is fun to see old friends in the business, but that's about it. It is good to get to know the people - who the good guys are - who the snakes are. Lots of both there...

Yeah, not sure why that is. Maybe because I didn't actually release the price - George Kirikos uncovered the sale in annual filings of the buyer - so it wasn't as widely distributed or as easy to find in google.

    Porn.ca is listed.

The porn category is a pretty bad .CA investment - there's so much porn out there - and maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Canadian porn consumers are demanding their porn be purely Canadian, otherwise someone here would already own MaplePorn.ca :)

    Someone picked up MapleButter

    Picture0002.png

Why does the name sound familiar?
Is he not the guy that runs registry.ca?

Looks like Maples are getting popular :xf.laugh:

this is an election year in canada.are canadian parties and special interest groups known for picking up political themed domains leading up to an election?

It is an interesting question but my thought is that local candidates hand register some available combination and the national parties already use their existing digital real estate only. I suppose a few possibilities in special interest groups, but I would think odds are low of making sales.

Could only mean WHC, domains were so cheap with them that they are easy to forget about. :xf.laugh:

    some where names as well

    Keane
    Capland
    Cavalli
    Mavin
    Talan
and I think namespro must have had a deal that you could transfer in at $4.99 or something like that, they all expire within 2-3 months

LOL, I just love lawyers writing crap like this:

"The lack of rights of the brand owner in the mark in Canada before the .ca domain name was registered led to the CDRP being dismissed, despite clear evidence of bad faith conduct."

Did this guy even go to law school? He clearly states there is no trademark in Canada, yet he wants a UDRP ruling in his favor? They always take "the world isn't fair" tack when the ruling doesn't favor them, and the "sorry, that's the law" angle when they screw someone. :xf.grin:

What I found interesting is someone promoting .ca for outside users.
    ie; non Canadian Companies

I mean it's done all the time with larger American Companies that have Canadian stores but I wonder how many of the registered .ca's are by people who have no legal claim to them.

I know I have bought a few from people in other parts of the world and wondered if they knew the risk in owning a .ca with meeting cira requirements.

in the US and in Canada i don't think you have to have a trademark in order to have product protection.if the company can prove they were in the marketplace before someone regd their domain name they can apply to take it.Common Law.(i think)

Yes, I just meant the general comment, as it's very common lawyer-speak.
