I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
But can you ever leave MyID and transfer to another Registrar?

I heard one guy did, a long, long time ago, but that turned out to be a lie. He actually died waiting.

I waited for a domain that was there..... could not believe how much it took for the member to get his domain out. Reminded me of NetSol in a strange sort of way.

And there is a reason for that, a la OIL.CA.

6 figure sales in .ca do not happen a lot... only 5 total in namebio... even if not all may show there...

where do you rank on namebio with yoru sold one and one u say is in progress?

jobs.ca 600,000 USD 2008-05-07 Private
jobs.ca 450,000 USD 2013-12-25 Sedo
poker.ca 400,000 USD 2010-06-01 SnapNames
slots.ca 206,906 USD 2010-07-09 Private
flights.ca 120,000 USD 2012-01-18 Private

jobs.ca is interesting. I remember the big 600k sale in 2008 but never heard (or forgot) that it resold for a lower price in 2013

I can assure you I've been involved in more 6-figure .CA deals just on my own than what is shown anywhere in public - namebio or otherwise. So you know there have to be countless more out there. Understand that the vast majority them have non-disclosure agreements. I literally just signed a 6-figure deal minutes ago (on a .com though) and the buyer added the non-disclosure clause to the sales agreement (I had left it out). So probably 90+% of those 6-figure deals will never get reported - unless the buyer wants to brag about their acquisition. However, most corporations like to keep that stuff on the down-low - hence all the non-disclosure clauses in these agreements.

Two of mine have been reported - but not by me. CreditCards.ca price was discovered by George Kirikos in the company's annual filings and it was bigger than jobs.ca. Jobs.ca was a deal I did with a business partner at the time. He divulged that deal against my wishes.

Another one was alluded to in the forums last spring - but only because I mentioned it before the deal was signed.

Another one _might_ be in the works - but i peg it at like 5% chance right now. The buyer said he was fine with the price - but that he was waiting on funding to come in this spring. We were discussing ways I could hold it for him, i.e. non-refundable deposit. But a LOT can change in that time, hence the 5% chance I'm giving it now.

All other 6-figure purchases or sales by me have gone unpublished as far as I know.

Yes, I was going to buy it, but a domainer friend wanted in on it. So we partnered up, started a company, bought jobs.ca (the $600K time) and several other 6-figure domains (one other .ca, sale not published). Fast forward a few years, we divvied up the assets and dissolved the company. He really wanted all the job related domains - I wanted the other domain assets - so we horse traded to make it fair for both sides. So he sold it the second time on his own, not me. Not sure I would've published it though considering he made the hit he took obvious...

it works by random promos.. mostly on:

rebel
whc
namespro

usually half price.. so round $5

other than this you get something like namesilo for $9US I think

which is I think cheapest price around as far as the most common and popular registrars go... like dyna... gd... and few more.

www.domcomp.com

is also good to check...

no promos now on those 3.

You might want to slow down, I would not have registered those. Think if a viable business would have a use for that donain.

I missed out on Pink.ca, he had given me a reasonable price... No offense but hopefully you paid more and made him happy for not selling it to me, he seemed like a nice guy! :)

As for the one I picked up - I'm still keeping that info on the down low.

I was fairly aggressive on Pink, I pursued it quite on purpose and it consistently outperforms other domains on Google analytics. It seems to get the most type in traffic, even bigger than red.

No offense, I'm just not big into sharing portfolios with domainers.

I'm getting more into trading the occasional domains.
A great one for a great one, depending who has a use for it.

The whole jobs scenario was a masterpiece followed by a failure.

Imagine calling a 450k USD sale a failure? :xf.eek:

But still a loss is a loss and the original marketing to hype the domain is going to be a difficult feat to follow. Jobs.ca is probably the single most important sale in the entire history of .ca sales because it set the standard. That standard has been quoted more than any other .ca sale in history.

My prime .ca's are going to sit for my son, I am purchasing only because I need write offs to get my tax base down. A purchase like red was a conquest and even overpaying was no big deal for me because it will probably end up being the college fund for my boy.

Red for my boy

Pink for my girl

Pure for my wife

DN for me (obvious reasons)

The rest are there to look pretty while I'm building the portfolio.

pretty..... hmmm.... that gives me an idea :xf.laugh:

Thanks for peeling back the curtains on this one @rlm. Interesting history on this name

Agreed, and .CA is not .COM, and here we have trouble selling even mid-range LLL.CA domains, due to the smaller number of businesses and lower population.

Treat .CA like the top 10% of the .COM market.

Hey, are you going after:

MapleButter.ca

Hey, are you going after:

MapleButter.ca

Did not intend too.... let me explain why

MapleButter is an end product but you cannot name the product maple butter.

A business cannot be named MapleButter and even if they were the budget would be small because it is such a targeted product.

In .com sure but in .ca it does not make sense for ME to spend any money on it.

Now something like MapleRoofing or MaplePlumbing is where I usually come in and I have been selling those domains approaching 20 years now both in .com and .ca.

I have sold a lot of maples in my day but that market has now steadily decreased and I am being much more picky. My focus right now is strictly one word .ca or .coms.

Some exceptions and maybe if MapleButter were to drop I would look at it as a reg fee but even to spend $59 bucks on it to have canspace or similar grab it for me would be something I am not a player on.

I picked up MapleFoods which was a much better fit for me and a broader audience.

Hope that helps.

Yep, and I was more looking at it as a brandable evoking "easy for Canadians" not a pure EMD.

Ya's got a problem? Come to MapleButter, bitches!!

Been awhile since I seen a.NNN..
Believe to go first.five

Especially one with a starting Zero, plus 721 is smooth and just sounds good.
