Has anyone had any luck with bands or upcoming band domains?

This applies to typos/anything that has to do with music domains.

Why, what do you have?

I have one but nothing is going on yet. They just released their first album. I haven't worked the site though either, needs work!

Anyone reg one for the band Hinder? Boy I like their stuff and no I don't have one. :)

This is a good speculative angle. There are always new bands entering the spotlight. The trick is to figure out which ones will be around for a while. Then again, the cost to produce a site about a band is so cheap that the risk can be kept to a minimum.

TM issues have to be considered here -- even when the term is generic, often the PPC will lead you astray from "good intent" in the eyes of the law.

Indeed. I am thinking of registering my favourite band's name with an unusual extention (hoping they would not mind as long as I stay away from .com and .co.uk) but it'd be for a fansite and not for selling. And I don't want to risk getting fined for a hobby fansite.

My site has no ppc or ads, it is a .net, the band site is the .com. It is strictly a fan site I am producing.

I've got a couple of clubbing brands on the .at extension, so these would be able to produce gatecrasher.at/liquidnightclub pages that may do well in searches, although I haven't got around to doing anything with them yet (and the gatecrasher example I'm actually selling...)

As long as trademark is not an issue, I would go for it.
It may be a good speculation play.

I actually just had a band looking at one of my LLLL.com domains. They are young and poor (just starting out) so they decided to go with LLLLmusic.com instead (because they could get it for regfee). If they hit it big, I'm sure they'll be looking to purchase the LLLL.com.

Cool! Make sure you put a little star beside it to remind yourself not to sell it anytime soon.

A good trick is to register band names of defunct bands you think will re-unite. If they reform indeed, they'll need the domain ;) I mean, those who registered thewho.com or takethat.com (if they weren't owned by the band in the first place) could have made lot of cash with it.

So pick your bands most likely to reform... and sell once they are back on tour indeed :bingo:

a different one you could try is adding 'music' after the band name (for example beatlesmusic.com or coldplaymusic.com) or something like that ; I don't think this would violate TM?
