Domain name variations

Hello to everyone in the community.

This is my first post in this forum, it looks like an excellent resource for this topic, which sometimes seems hard to find definitive information on!

I may soon be registering a domain name, and wonder what the major registers' polices are reguarding the registration of variants to a domain. I have seen things mentioned in advertisements about mispellings, ect. Are there special deals available for registering the variants of a domain name?

Also, as a newbie to this field, I wonder if anyone might be able to overview any significant differences in the features of the major competitors that we should be aware of.

Thanks for your assistance, I look forward to contributing!

Kevin

I don't quiet get your first question but I will answer your second one.

GoDaddy has reports of deleting domains because of country (like a canadian registering a .us) or invaild whois infomation.. Just something you should be aware of.. Other then that they are pretty good..

RegisterFly,NameCheap,eNom these are the types of registers that you should use. Low price nothing really to report.

DomainSite - Cheap but not good for newbies.

Yahoo,Ev1servers - Cheap but they don't offer that great of or any really support. Not good for a newbie either.

NetworkSolutions - Costs alot but best for newbie best support and easy to control administrate domains.

I would say eNom resellers, NetworkSolutions would be your best paths.

But people have there own options...

Cheers, And good luck!

Thanks for the information iNod.

As for my first question, it was poorly communicated so I will reword it.

Essentially, do any of the registars allow you to register alternative spellings of your chosen domain name, at less than the full price of an entirely seperate registration? Ex, www.tonguetwister.com, www.tonguetwisters.com, www.tongtwister.com..

I think no.

no, not at less price. It would be the same as the one you originally register.

godaddy gives you different TLDs for less. So if you bought asdalkjfr04t34l34t9erg.com they would give you asdalkjfr04t34l34t9erg.biz and asdalkjfr04t34l34t9erg.info for only $15 I think. I remember something like that anyway.
