yes, I am aware of fake PR.

But suppose I see PR3-PR4 domain for sale and it is not fake, but the name is the most meaningless and complete crap or .info. So I am wondering what would someone original thought of when registering that name and building website on it and promoting it into PR3-PR4?

Before thinking the name is crap, check the wayback and see if the name fit the site.

That can give you a clue as to what kind of traffic you will get as well.

PR has less to do with the actual domain name as the quality of the site that sits on it.

this was not my question. Why register and promote ESPN923.COM (http://www.namepros.com/domains-for-sale-auctions/768060-espn923-com-1-start-auction-pr2.html)? Would not it be a better overall value if besides PR/backlinks it would be at least a "reg fee" not "$0" type name?

I guess you are saying they needed it for a very specific project and did not care less about domain value itself?

dompro,

I believe the name you are bidding on in that thread is valueless since its an obvious (to me)TM violation.

I dont know how it got to pr2, but I'm guessing the boys @ espn/Disney wouldnt approve.

Would not it be a better overall value if besides PR/backlinks it would be at least a "reg fee" not "$0" type name?
Sorry, but I dont understand this question.

Yes. :)
The value would be from the site that it sits/sat on. The traffic, backlinks, brand association with the actual site, etc.

Consider ESPN, a vccc.com, all good letters, worth perhaps $xxx+ on its own.
But the Brand "ESPN", which includes ESPN dot com,is worth Billions.

Google, as an unbranded domain name, would be a d2d $xx name.

I hope I am explaining this to properly answer your question.

Sorry, but I dont understand this question.
I was pretty much wondering why people registering crappy names while better are available for a reg fee.

I guess what I did not see is that, if someone is planning to infringe trademark.com, trademarkNNNN.com might be there best choice for what they need it for. After they old done with it, it is being sold for PR value only (if there is any use of it)
