Hello,

What is your price for the domain mentioned in the subject line?

I'm very interested in this name.

Did you get offers from other people already?

I run a software company. We develop client-server systems and databases in MS SQL and Delphi. Buying and selling domain names is not my main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional income.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Best regards,

Was actually pretty excited at first, the guy seemed serious. But like any domain seller I decided to look him up, which led me to many forums and sites that show he is a scam. Lammmmeeee.

How about 400 GBP? Ok?

Do you sell the name only without web site? I'm interested in the name so
web site is not so important.

Do you have an appraisal certificate for your domain name?

Domain name is an investment for me. In other words I'm going to sell your
name later and make a profit. If I overpay I won't be able to make a profit
in the future. It's very important for you and me to know the current market
value of your domain.

Of course, we must be sure that you are engaging a reputable appraisal
company. I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate appraisals.
I will only accept appraisals from independent sources I trust. I heard some
appraisal companies often made inaccurate appraisals. So I will only accept
appraisals from independent sources I To avoid mistakes I asked domain
experts about reputable appraisal companies in a forum
http://domaintalk.ourplace.com/Archive/98042.htm

Just check this posting.

If the appraisal comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly.
I also hope you can give me 10% - 15% discount of the appraised value.

After I get an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations.

How do you prefer to get paid: www.escrow.com, www.PayPal.com check or
wire?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

Looking forward to your reply.

Happy New Year to you and your family!

There is also a smillar scam mail that starts with "your name was for sale" when you just moved the nameservers from or to a parking service.

The guy follows nameserver changes. Just after you parked a domain or took off from parking if you receive an email saying "your domain was for sale" mark it as spam and move on.

Interestingly he uses some unusual free email providers that look like genuine websites. His email might look like [email protected] or [email protected] .Sometimes he says "I'm rising funds for a campain".

Hello,

Please give me your price for the name in the subject line. Your name was listed for sale.

Domain names is not my main business. I'm going to make money on reselling to raise funds for launching a portal about tourism in Norway.

If you offer more domains for sale with good reselling potential please email us your list.

Looking forward to do business with you.

I thought about Afternic, but found their service inaccurate and automated.

http://www.igoldrush.com/links3.htm
"Capsule Review: After lots of complaints, Afternic is no longer a
recommended service. We will re-review the service in the near future."

I also found the following information about them
http://www.out-law.com/page-1630

So Afternic.com is NOT acceptable.

Reading responses from experienced sellers I was impressed by one reply:
"Many Internet users are not smart enough and popular domain brokers are
using this fact to make money. They offer them cheap appraisal services. But
if their customers would have something in their heads they'd understand
experts could not make a professional research for $15-$20. These appraisals
are made by machines. Easy money for such appraisers as
http://www.Afternic.com and several other major brokers that offer cheap
auto-generated appraisals. In my eyes, all services under $50-$55 are not
manual and the results are generated by special scripts. I don't trust
auto-generated appraisals."
The same is true for GoDaddy and SEDO. Their services are not manual. They are just collecting money using their well-known names.

I heard many appraisal companies often overpriced domains. So I cannot accept appraisal from each and every site.

To avoid mistakes I asked about reputable appraisers in a forum. Several experts recommended me Securenamesale's appraisal service -
http://www.securenamesale.com/appraise.asp as a fast, accurate and non-expensive manual service.

I also trust the manual appraisal service from http://www.DomainMart.com but it's very expensive - $200/hour. This service was also recommended by many people. If you can afford $200 DomainMart.com's fee it would be great. They also provide cheap automated service but it's not acceptable.

the same guy is also going by: Machomann" <[email protected]> calling himself Jon Machomann. he is obviously trying to drum up appraisal biz. He has sent me several emails in response to FreeSexSpot.com, which I listed on ebay and is adamant about getting an appraisal from a company he "trusts".
all his emails are identical to the others listed here except he has different archive listings with the exact same messages from the same users ...
http://domaintalk.ourplace.com/Archive/261947.htm

this forum main page states it is closed for maintenance.
the primary domain is listed with whois and not private.
it is a chat site which requires nothing but a stated name to enter.
there is no apparent way to add a subdomain without admin access.

I am far from an expert in these matters and just because I don't know how to do something doesn't mean much. I mostly build info sites for advertising purposes such as http://all-about-golf.com .

maybe someone who has the technical ability can find something here.

in the meantime I think I will just play with him a little.

Yes, this one is still going strong. I hadn't received one of these appraisal scams in almost a year so thought they'd moved on to trying something else. Guess they're still going strong, finally rec'd this one today. Here's the opener letter, then the usual follow-up after I sent an 'amount'. They keep changing names of course, so here's the latest name used.

Here's their follow up. Same form letters, same M.O. Watch out for them, Newbies. It gets real messy and stupid the further you get into this nonsense with them. We tried it once just to play with the guy(s), and they got quite abusive once we actually got into calling their game; as I've said in past posts about this, just imagine the most ardent radical religious fanatic spewing and screaming at you through a typed letter. If you want some fun this way, take it to the limit and threaten legal action, threaten FBI, threaten an immediate investigation, etc. We had a gas :)

Hey,

I've got a few of these mails too, But it was a strange co-incidence for that guy as I had already appraised my domains to test the waters for personal reasons. However, I kept getting similar mails from the same guys and all of them insisted that I get my sites appraised from SecureNameSale, additionally, he also said that he had spent around $250 for me by registering at some opt-in bulk e-mail marketing site, and which is why he felt that I should share my profits with him and that this is how business relationships should grow and all that jazz....

Hi Guys,

I got the same email 100% copy and paste but they used a different name. The offer is really tempting and i fall on this scam last year. Is securenamesale directly related to them?Is there anything we can do about it? I tried asking for a refund on their CC Processor,Emetrix, telling them that securenamesale is doing a bad means of doing business as they are deceiving a lot of people in order to make a sale.

That was sometime last year, it's been going on for well over a year now with different email addresses. When I looked into it he's apparently grabbing email addresses from recently dropped names :(
