Hello,

What is your price for the domain mentioned in the subject line?

I'm very interested in this name.

Did you get offers from other people already?

I run a software company. We develop client-server systems and databases in MS SQL and Delphi. Buying and selling domain names is not my main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional income.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Best regards,
Paul Anestad Ph.D.
CEO
Opera Engineering

Was actually pretty excited at first, the guy seemed serious. But like any domain seller I decided to look him up, which led me to many forums and sites that show he is a scam. Lammmmeeee.

Hello,

Could you send me price for the name mentioned in the subject line?

By the way, investing in domain names is not the main direction of our
business but a good way to generate additional income.

If you have other domain names for sale please send us the complete
list with prices for consideration.

I'm a very busy person so it may take several hours before I respond :)

Looking forward to do business with you.

am grateful to this thread, that Im able to spot them, thought it was a legitimate offer.

i think he was able to get my email when i started parking majority of my domains on sedo.com

Yep, I got the same exact message as weblord -- apparently he now refers to the domain in the "subject line" so he won't have to waste time writing it in the message body.

I assumed initially it was just a response to a recent Sedo addition, but when I referred him to my Sedo listings, and got back a non-responsive reply, I got suspicious and searched for "John Tetner", and found this forum. Many thanks for saving me from a potentially costly boo-boo!

Same scam attempt here

Hello, I just joined the forum. Accidentally came across the postings and it was all exactly what I got as a "purchase offer". Word by word!
Here's the identity of the "interested buyer" this time:

Regards,
Jon Terner
Vice President
Opera Software

The original message was sent from: "Opera Software" <[email protected]>

I was doubtful from the very beginning, especially when all "correspondence" was arriving at my 'Bulk' e-mail folder. Anyway,I tried to see what comes next and actually posted a couple of answers. I am kind of sorry for wasting my time even "talking" or rather trying to talk to some loser. I am very glad to have come across this forum. Believe me, the next one to him is gonna be really NICE:))), having all the proof I needed right here in this forum. :sold:

Yah, I got one of those yesterday, this time it was from [email protected], the email was the exact same as some of the operaen.com guys. He sent back telling me to get it appraised and I replied saying that Its all what its worth to the buyer if you can find the right person, so if he does want to get it appraised he will have to do so himself.

I got one from [email protected] yesterday too. Told them the same thing, if they want it appraised they can pay for it.

Scam and spam does not make sense 99% of the time.

Same with this one. First of all a serious person, company or business will call you by your name not just say a Hi or Hello!

Wow, talk about strange timing!

I recently fell victim to a variation of this scam and decided my form of revenge would be www.DomainAppraisalScam.com (almost fully developed).

Just found this thread now and agree, after searching the web, there wasn't really a home-base for info on this scam.

Hope it doesn't seem I'm stepping on any toes.

Again, strange timing.

Similar Scam Please Read For Your Protection

Hi,

I received this email two days ago and it's format is remarkably similar to the one posted. I thought he might be genuine at first but he was insistent on an appraisal before purchasing. I subsequently declined and have not heard from him since!

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. You have confirmed what I thought all along - this guy was trying to earn commission on an appraisal.

Matt.
