I was wondering if and how a hyphen affects the search properties of a domain name?

For example: Will a developed site on new-cars.com have the same search power as say a site at newcars.com? Hoping to get some technical expertise from SEO experts. Thanks!

I don't think it makes much difference for SEO, but the hyphen will always lose traffic to the non-hyphen.

There is no difference between a hyphenated or otherwise for Google. It depends upon the content and mostly how others are linking to your site as. However in terms of domain value, hyphens domains are discounted.
