Do you believe there are domain collectors out there?

I was wondering... If some small amount of people who own the domain names have zero focus in monetization, cause they earn a big money from other sources, BUT they like rare items and collect domains as rare stamps or something similar?I mean, they dont care what the price is, even highly overrated, as long as they want particular name in their collection.

Yes, I would say many domain holders are domain collectors. And many do not even realize that :red: :tu:

Yes I believe so.

I have certain domains that simply will not be sold. They basically sit and collect dust but I get a certain enjoyment from knowing they're mine :)

Yes.

FMA doesn't sell names and they (he) have serious names but are obviously financed in a way normal people aren't.

There's also a guy in Hawaii called Stenzel who I believe no one can pry a name from (except UDRP). Owns every cat killer Spanish name just about.

I collect names but it's not my intention some days.

Didnt know about that. It seems so romantic... Like having in possession extremely rare coin or some antique. I believe the collectors point of having just 2 letter domains will evolve. Not for the investment but simply to sit in the evening behind your computer from time to time and go over the list of collection :)

Yes. I call them 'cute domains'. Because they are simply cute to own.

FMA at least develop some stuff. Funny, I recently contacted them to buy a .org. They wouldn't even hear my offer and I own the domain in almost all other extentions :|

I am a domain collector. My intention was never to sell domains undeveloped.

But I do, if someone knocks at my door with the right price. But recently I have started developing some of my names. Once I develop most of them, I will renew them for a couple of years more and not buy a domain again.

One can't always just let go of a domain as well if the price is not right, so you end up holding it for a fair price. This is true only for good names. If you holding it for sentimental reasons... you won't succeed. This is true with financial investments as well.

Never marry your domains.

FAQ is more funny. LOL

:D LOL But when checking I found some others not in the development and not parked, simply a note that they do not wish to sell the name by any circumstance :)I wasnt asking if somebody is partial collector and develops domains and sell them, I was asking if somebody is collecting for fun :)If you collect them and develop and than sell them, you couldnt really call that collecting.:)

LOL!

I would say definitely. I've heard of people collecting much stranger things than domains.

Yeah but those things are much more concrete...Pure domain collecting is more like concept art...

Holding a few domains for sentimental reasons isn't going to make or break anyone IMO. In fact, a wealthy person could hold hundreds/thousands if it makes them happy.

Yeah and it could be a status simbol too:) For instance owning a .com with 100s type in vistors per day and simply put a beloved cat on it :) I find it cute :)

I agree- a few held for sentimental reasons is ok. A wealthy person could do this, and I am sure he/she would have bought good names... holding onto good names for sentimental value is quite good in my books. :D The person should just let their family know that they have those domains so that it doesn't expire when they no longer around.

Some good names that expire is from some collector that died.

how comes you put the funny face after this sentence?
BTW is it possible to renew the domain for 500 years in the future? Thise would wealthy collectors do :)

Yes, I agree. :tu:

It is not a funny face, it simply indicates that I blinked when I finished the sentence. My wise mom taught me not to blink while speaking to someone, it is disrespectful. "Rather blink at the end", she said.

No, I believe only up to 10 years is possible. So say you paid renewals for 10 years, and one year from now, you will have 9 years left before expiry... so you can renew for only another year to maintain the 10 years... that's if you want to maintain the 10 years... which is the max.

Ok thanks for all the answers.;) But why 10 years only? I mean intellectual rights do not expire till the 80th anniversary of the creators death ...
