I registered a premium .Ca domain name.. after My ID verification and waiting 5 days this is what I got from my registrar.. the domain name still appear available in many sarching sites!!!
----------
Unfortunately the domain name ***.ca is not available to register.
Occasionally our registration system does not correctly detect if a domain name already exists.
In some circumstances, the domain name may appear on a non-published reserved/banned list, and for this reason, it may appear that the domain name is technically available to register.
This order has now been cancelled and a credit will be applied to your account.
Please contact us if you have any questions or need any further assistance.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

check the domain whois/availability on the registry's website

I think it is cira.ca

that will show the registration date

This is pretty common with most registrars because their databases are not always "live"

Its happened to me plenty of times

The Cira website says that it is available!!! but when I check it at whois.net I get this error message:
"Error message: The domain name provided conflicts with at least one other registered domain name and as a result is not available for registration (e.g. xyz.ca conflicts with xyz.on.ca)."

Yeah, but I think the CIRA search is not able to determine if a domain was previously reserved. So it can still show up as registered a couple of days ago, while in reality it might have been taken for weeks now. Also (correct me if I'm wrong) but previously the .ca domain were pretty hard to register, with the registrant having to undergo several verifications. As those take time it is possible that the registration process was initiated before the second person tried to grab it and thus the difference in dates. But yeah, this is something that does occur sometimes due to the Whois searches not constantly updated.

If the domain is taken in one (or more) of the old provincial third levels (ie .on.ca, .qc.ca) etc then the matching second level domain is locked. The only way out would be to get permission from all the existing third level domain holders, or maybe buy the domain(s) or wait until they drop...
The message is pretty clear.
