Did anyone register '.website' domains? The general availability started today.

I feel out of all the new gtld's this is very generic!! At least, that's my opinion. :)

It's from Radix Registry the one's who also offer .site .online & the most anticipated .web extension - all yet to be released.

I grabbed 2 domains -
ForexTrading.website
SportsBetting.website

Thought they suited the generic extension well :roll:

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I just registered

At Namecheap price is 7,88$,almost 2 times less+you get free privacy for the domain.

aww damn! wish I would have checked there first. I did notice that one .reviews name I was looking at the price vaired drastically from Godaddy to Namecheap to other Registrars. For some reason when typed into search box at godaddy as example.reviews the price is $200, if I just do a search for example, than scroll down to example.reviews its $29.99- however when I check out it says not available. Other registrars show available for $125 and $120. Not sure whats going on with that.

Sometimes registers show available,but it's not,i check than with whois websites,but new gTLDs are not fully supported for whois yet,only way is when you try to register the domain,if it isn't available,payment fails.
Godaddy recently offered me a domain as premium for 1k$(the domain was expired and available),i have registered it for 9,99$ at Above.;)

KeywordWebsite.com = Value
PremiumKeyword.WS = Some Value
Keyword.Website = Waste of money

I think it's all about SEO,and all TLD and gTLD are equal in this most important criteria.

Yes, but this is a domaining section in a domaining forum, we're not talking about development and SEO here.

I can rank on Google at #1 position any keyword even having ghbkorugf.info as domain, and sell it for $$$$.
But i can't sell ghbkorugf.info without a website ranked at #1 on Google.

On the other hand i can sell KeywordWebsite.com without development, i can also sell for something PremiumKeyword.ws , but it's near to impossible to sell Keyword.website without a website ranked at #1 on Google.

I have in mind that new gTLD have value,and about development and SEO-you are absolutely right.I just don't agree with the statements that they have no value.If i have to choose for example between BoraBoraHotels.com and BoraBora.hotels,i think the only difference is that the second will save me 3 clicks on the keyboard. :)

Personally, I think BoraBora on the left of the dot and Hotels on the right looks visually better. Plus it give semantic meaning to both the subject and category for the website.

The organic traffic is important for a website. You cant only rely on seo. Once google update their algorithm, you might lose all your traffic.

Why should google do that?

Exemple of ehow.com :
http://vioo.me/rre04d

Its a good domain for seo for the word "how". It's a .com and memorable.

Imagine if they had electronic.how
A hard to remember adress so basically a low amount of direct typing. Combine that with a algorithm change. Wow.

We will see,i personally think,that .com dominion is near it's end.And new gTLDs will be much more worth than now in 2-3 years.

Yeah right from zero to market domination in 2-3 years. People didn't even get the affordable computers in that pace in the 90's.

.net is still not as popular as the .com. same goes for .mobi and .co....

Can't wait to see what will happen when all .dictionary words will be available..

Why would new gtld(s) being successful have to result in the end of dot com's dominance?

I'm inclined to believe that some are motivated more by what they wish to happen rather what is more likely to happen based on the facts of past performance and the power of the dot com "brand".

Actually, this unjustified, dot com bashing is found not only at forums where it is relatively harmless. More concerning, this is a paradox that is prevalent, even at some of the largest domain brokerage sites, where they are bound to help customers derive maximum market value for their names. Ironically, most of those names are likely, dot com domains. Even some blogs, (reluctantly they probably claim) may be joining in the party.

Through negative advertising, to promote new tlds, some are going so far as debasing the future potential of the very dot com assets that customers entrust to these businesses for sales. That's like contracting with a car dealer to sale your 2013 Mustang, while at the same time the car dealer is advertising to customers that 2013 Mustangs will not hold value in the future. Some will say this is just business. I say this is a betrayal of trust and bad business for those sellers and registrants of all domains.

I don't know about the end of .com dominance, but for the new gtlds to be successful, the registries have to seriously reconsider their pricing policies. club was successful partly because it was cheap ($4?) and partly because it was marketed heavily. .website has a very strange pricing. house.website is available for $2k! .tips is somewhat successful as the registry held back very few single word domain names. The registries should aim for volume instead of trying to make a few thousand dollars during the initial period.

About .com, as someone else pointed out in this forum, it does not have to be a zero sum game.

Any examples? You would do us all a favor by telling us how to get the number one spot for any keyword. For example "Auto Insurance".

If a .com sells for 2K It means the .whatever is worth almost nothing.
