I think one word defence.com cheap sold
It is the British spelling so that’s probably why it didn’t sell for very much.

Muhu good four letter comparable @ $15.2k, especially at NameJet.

It's very low for defence.com

-I'm actually surprised Defence.com sold for so much. It is not spelled correctly and it was sold on Flippa.

-One thing I wish domain sales reporting platforms would start doing is specifying with venues like Godaddy and Namejet whether the sale is from expired/pre-release or if it is an actual end user sale.

its not the incorrect spelling, its just not the american spelling - Britain, Canada, Australia, etc all spell it defence.

LOL

<<whether the sale is from expired/pre-release or if it is an actual end user sale>>

I suppose we might be able to know if it's an expired domain but how could we know if it is to an end user? At least we might not know this right away. I've sold domains to end users who sat on the domain for months if not longer.

^ Well with Godaddy the sale could be from a normal auction or bin (most likely an end user sale), or it could be an expired domain regged with GD or one of its partners (more likely domainer/investor). Sometimes with sales mostly in the $500 - 5k range I have to stop and wonder which it is. Same with Namejet.

There's not really a clear-cut line though. What if an end user wins an expired auction against only other domain investors and pays a wholesale price? What if two domain investors battle it out on an expired auction at NameJet and end up in the low-retail range?

We were thinking of having a scale from low wholesale to high retail and scoring a domain based on close comps, so if similar domains sold for much less we could call it retail. Still giving it some thought though.

I think defence could have sold for a bit more. But these names are not very liquid.
It's a great name for a magazine or website with a UK/Canada (limited) focus, but too generic for a business. Companies like Northtrop Boeing etc have built their whole reputation on their own brand names and would not benefit much.

BTW:
  • .com.au: developed site
  • .uk, .co.uk: parked for sale
  • .ca: inactive, registered to a Canadian government entity
=> could be a nice add-on for the Australian end user :)

Nice sale, i think it sold about right to be honest.

2 variations of spelling i think many companies will be hesitant branding around it, so think low 5 figures is a fair price.
