The other day I watched a toddler approach a flat-screen television and, with Cheetos-encrusted fingers, try to swipe the boring show away. Such is life in the touch screen age. But just as we are getting used to swiping and typing on phone and tablet glass, a new breakthrough could make our physical screens obsolete within the next five years.

I dont think the mass appeal is there yet

I don't think the headline is correct, perhaps the next generation will enbrace it ?

I agree with ya. Even like, let's say, full touch-screen monitors. I never hear of anyone using one. I prefer the mouse and have no desire for the touch-screen. And I think most ppl in this generation and for the next several will prefer them on home PC's.

Because this contraption uses a "projector" attached to the body of the person, this means you need to stand (or sit) still while you tinker with it. Otherwise, the screen will move as your body moves. Imagine watching a 2-hour movie while you're keeping your body as frigid as a statue. And besides, you won't be able to slouch on a sofa either.

And i don't think humans would prefer to use instruments that require more calories to operate. Imagine you're at the office waving your hand making karate moves with your arms in thin air to operate a computer -- for 8 hours.

I think this will have better uses for the military, police, or rescue units who are always on the field where carrying laptops or smartphones would be a hassle.
