Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

Coronavirus: How my mum became a conspiracy theory influencer

https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-54669239

"Sebastian’s mum has become one of the leaders of Britain’s conspiracy community, collecting tens of thousands of followers with false claims – including denying coronavirus exists, blaming the symptoms of Covid-19 on 5G radio waves and likening the NHS to Nazi Germany.

Sebastian is worried about his mum’s impact on public health and reasoned debate. And, closer to home, their relationship has broken down.

He spoke exclusively to the BBC’s specialist disinformation reporter Marianna Spring."

Texas governor bars vaccine mandates in state as deaths approach 70,000

The Texas governor, Greg Abbott, issued an executive order Monday to prohibit any entity, including private business, from enforcing a Covid-19 vaccine mandate on workers and called on state lawmakers to pass a similar ban into law.

The move comes as the Biden administration is to issue rules requiring employers with more than 100 workers to be vaccinated or test weekly for the coronavirus. Several major companies, including Texas-based American Airlines and Southwest Airlines, have said they would abide by the federal mandate.

I just got back from the bank, where I cancelled my checking account and opened a new one because of the Epic data breach. When the banker started coughing, I asked him if he had allergies. He said No, that he had Covid a year ago. He was in the hospital for 45 days and on a ventilator for 3 weeks. He suffered permanent lung damage, but said he was grateful to still be among the living. He's probably one of thousands living with the lifelong aftereffects of the disease.

Identifying conspiracy theories

https://ec.europa.eu/info/live-work...nformation/identifying-conspiracy-theories_en

"The coronavirus pandemic has seen a rise in harmful and misleading conspiracy theories, mostly spreading online. To address this trend, the European Commission and UNESCO are publicising a set of ten educational infographics helping citizens identify, debunk and counter conspiracy theories."

What are conspiracy theories? Why do they flourish?

1. What are they?

The belief that certain events or situations are secretly manipulated behind the scenes by powerful forces with negative intent.

2. Conspiracy theories have these 6 things in common

1. An alleged, secret plot.

2. A group of conspirators.

3. ‘Evidence’ that seems to support the conspiracy theory.

4. They falsely suggest that nothing happens by accident and that there are no coincidences; nothing is as it appears and everything is connected.

5. They divide the world into good or bad.

6. They scapegoat people and groups.

3. Why do they flourish?

They often appear as a logical explanation of events or situations which are difficult to understand and bring a false sense of control and agency. This need for clarity is heightened in times of uncertainty like the COVID-19 pandemic.

4. How do they take root?

Conspiracy theories often start as a suspicion. They ask who is benefiting from the event or situation and thus identify the conspirators. Any ‘evidence’ is then forced to fit the theory.

Once they have taken root, conspiracy theories can grow quickly. They are hard to refute because any person who tries is seen as being part of the conspiracy.

5. People spread conspiracy theories for different reasons:

Most believe they are true. Others deliberately want to provoke, manipulate or target people for political or financial reasons. Beware: They can come from many sources e.g. internet, friends, relatives.

'Mix and match' Covid vaccine boosters are effective, NIH study finds

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/heal...osters-are-effective-nih-study-finds-rcna2974

"A highly anticipated study of “mixing and matching” Covid-19 vaccines found the approach to be safe and effective, although the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines were found to spark stronger immune system responses than Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine.

Mixing and matching” refers to giving a booster dose of a vaccine different from the vaccine type that was used for the initial vaccination series.

The National Institutes of Health study, which was released Wednesday but has yet to be peer reviewed, found that people who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine produced stronger antibody levels after they got booster shots made by Moderna or Pfizer, compared to boosters from Johnson & Johnson. Those who were originally vaccinated with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines and received either company’s booster shot produced similarly strong immune responses, the researchers found."

Key points. I understand that selling conspiracy theories is very lucrative.

Any ‘evidence’ is then forced to fit the theory.

Most believe they are true. Others deliberately want to provoke, manipulate or target people for political or financial reasons.

Merck wants Americans to pay $712 for a Covid drug that taxpayers helped develop

Last week, we learned that Merck is planning to charge Americans 40 times its cost for a Covid drug whose development was subsidized by the American government. The situation spotlights two sets of facts that have gone largely unmentioned in the legislative debate over whether to let Medicare negotiate for lower drug prices.

Fact one: Americans are facing not merely expensive drugs but prices that are examples of outright profiteering.

Fact two: in many cases, the medicines we are being gouged on are those that we the public already paid for.

FDA advisory group recommends 2nd J&J shot

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/fda-advisory-group-recommends-2nd-jj-shot-rcna2987

"A Food and Drug Administration advisory panel voted Friday to recommend a second Johnson & Johnson shot for emergency use authorization.

Authorization of Johnson & Johnson’s booster means that all of the available vaccines in the United States would have booster doses. Thursday, the same panel unanimously voted to recommend a Moderna booster for certain individuals.

The Johnson & Johnson booster would be available for all of the nearly 15 million people ages 18 and up who received that vaccine. That’s a departure from the recommendations for Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna boosters, which are limited to those aged 65 and up, aged 18 to 64 with either underlying health conditions, or whose job that puts them at high risk of exposure to Covid-19.

On Friday, the committee agreed that a second dose was warranted, particularly given the lower effectiveness of the single shot. The results of Johnson & Johnson’s Phase 3 study, in which people received a booster shot 2 months after their initial vaccination, found that the additional dose increased the effectiveness to 94 percent.

In fact, many committee members argued that Johnson & Johnson’s vaccination regime should simply be considered a two-dose vaccine, just like the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, rather than a single shot plus a booster."

I'm sure his death would have been much worse if he was not vaxxed #clotshot

Might've been. Or not.

PS - I used wrong emoji initially in my post, which is why readers will see a difference in your quote and my edit.
