Hi. I want to know how much it will cost me to actually give my domain name to a buyer that wins an auction. I have several domains on GoDaddy and I just bought them a few weeks ago. I read somewhere that I am not allowed to transfer my domain name until about 6 months after I purchased it. Is this true? I just want to know how I would be able to transfer full ownership and control of a domain as one would give up a title and keys of a car after selling it to any particular buyer. My fear is that I will have to pay a certain fee to transfer ownership and that fee will outweigh the actual money I gained from selling the domain. Help me please! Thanks.

There should be no fee from the registar when you sell a domain, unless they are helping you with the sale, then there might be a broker fee.

You can generally transfer a domain to a buyer that has an account with the same registrar and there is no fee for anyone. If the buyer wants to transfer the domain to another registrar, then they have to pay for the transfer fee, which is really just another year of registration. The seller must unlock the domain and approve the transfer.

I think Godaddy has a 60 day restriction on transfering the domain, but I think you can sell it and push it to another account. Best to call them and check for sure. You also need to know that at Godaddy if you change the domain registrant information you cannot transfer the domain for another 60 days. I bought a domain that was going to expire and wanted to transfer it to my main account. I made the mistake of correcting the spelling of my name and then learned that I would have to pay Godaddy for another reg fee because they would not let me transfer it for 60 days....

If you get a buyer and cannot transfer the domain to them for some reason, you can still add them as a contact on the domain and have them wait until the domain is free to be transfered. That would be one option if they'll trust you.
