I would actually say starting in the late 1960s movies got a new set of Balls.

Today's movies are directing by Test Audiences, overinflated budgets and too much CGI and where the hero must always win.

For me the late 1960s through the 1970s was the greatest and Coolest time for movies.

too much CGI

I so got your back on this one, I am for a "badge"on DVDs and movie posters that says this movie contains no CGI

Airport (1970)
this movie is so outdated now.
Alien (1979)
Sigourney Weaver!!!! ewwwwwww
Aloha Bobby and Rose (1975)
hey you found something I'd never seen before!
American Graffiti (1973)
Milner Coupe!!! I could talk about this movie for an hour. The three main cars in the film were owned by George Lukes. He sold them right

after the movie not thinking that they would one day be valuable. I believe the Coupe sold for $1 million once. Candy Clark was so perfect in

the movie.
Animal House (1978)
seems like all anybody could talk about on this film was John Belushi, but he really

was just a part of the film.
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Marlon Brando was hired to appear in this film but he said that he would only film

for a short period of time, I think it was two weeks, and he would only do one location. So they had to design his apart around those two

things. Brando was also famous for not being able to memorize lines and had to read them.
Billy Jack (1971)
when tin soldier rides away!!! Paul Simon did a skit on this movie on the old Saturday

Night Live show. Also Howard Hessman was in this movie. The guy that was Billy Jack in the movie never outgrew the role in real life.
Blazing Saddles (1974)
this movie is still funny! My uncle was a hard-core cowboy and he went to see

this movie when it first came out thinking it was a real "John Wayne" film LOL
Breaking Away (1979)
this film always looked to be extremely boring so I never really watched it, some

major star(future) was in it but I don't remember who it was.
Breakout (1975)
I. know I will recognize this if I were to look it up or something but just the one word title

doesn't ring a bell for me
Brian's Song (1971)
This was never my kind of movie
Bullet (1968)
this is the movie that all anybody can talk about is the Mustang muscle car chase through

San Francisco. But over time I learned to appreciate this movie a lot more than just the chase. I believe Suzanne Somers played the dead

girl in the motel.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
just an absolutely beautiful film, Katharine Ross mmmmm
Charley Varrick (1973)
this does not ring a bell
Dirty Harry (1971)
I've watched all the Clint Eastwood films to a point where I can practically mimic the

lines
Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
I saw this in a drive in LOL it was a real weird movie, the biggest thing I

remember was al pachino carrying a gun in a gift box, screaming at the news people and cops, and his accomplice get a shot in the head
Death Race 2000 (1975)
not much the memory of this
Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry (1974)
I like this movie when I was a kid!!! Been forever since I've seen it
Duel (1971)
is another movie that if I saw it I would recognize it
Enter the Dragon (1973)
this movie was legendary from day one!!!
Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex, But Were Afraid to Ask (1972)
I heard about this film

but it wasn't something my parents were ever going to bring me to, and I have since zero desire to see it
Every Which Way but Loose (1978)
I've seen bits and pieces of this film were the years but I never really

cared much for it. One thing it has Sandra Locke in it and guerrillas(the wrong type I know)
Freebie and the Bean (1974)
I saw this movie once in my life and it was forgotten quicker than the movie

was. But I never forgot the damn title
Gator (1976)
remember the title and Bert Reynolds and all that I don't remember the movie very well
Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)
there pieces of this film that are interesting today to see. I don't know but recommend watching it from beginning to end
Grease (1978)
this movie was designed so the girls watch John Travolta and the boys watch Olivia Newton John tight leather pants.
Hard Times (1975)
good movie but it didn't really sink in that much
High Plains Drifter (1973)
I didn't really care for the supernatural part of this film, but it's still good old Clint Eastwood
Jaws (1975)
this movie was Star Wars before there was Star Wars!!!
Kelly's Heroes (1970)
this movie never interested me
Logan's Run (1976)
this movie was kind of the play upon the hippie movement don't trust anybody older than 30. I saw the beginning of this movie not too long ago and it's so obvious they were used little train sets models
Longest Yard (1974)
this movie was cool once a long time, I don't think I could watch three minutes of it today
Mad Max (1979)
if you ask me what decade mad Max was filmed in I would've said the 1980s lol
McQ (1974)
I would need a refresher on this movie
MASH (1970)
I hated this movie in the series! Please don't get mad at me for saying that, if you're one of these people that just absolutely love M*A*S*H sorry
Meatballs (1979)
I just didn't get this movie, some kid does this summer camp and Bill Murray supposed to be so cool
Mr. Majestic (1974)
Charles Bronson shooting people
My Name is Nobody (1973)
I remember this movie
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
Jack Nicholson acting like Jack
Paper Moon (1973)
this movie with from a period where movie goers were remembering one of two periods, the 20,s the 50s. This is a 20's film. People wouldn't stop talking about Tatuam Oneal in this film, nowadays they won't stop talking about her relationship with her father
Phantom of the Paradise (1974)
I don't remember this
Posse (1975)
I probably would remember this if I seen it
Saturday Night Fever (1975)
This film was so big!!!!
Smokey and the Bandit (1977)
this was just pure fun, because of these Smokey films Bert Reynolds was the biggest box office draw for five years
Rio Lobo (1970)
classic John Wayne
Rocky (1976)
when I think of Rocky I think of the music, and how I couldn't go along with Talia Shire being considered unattractive just because she had glasses on.
Silver Streak (1976)
somebody told me not too long ago that they really liked this movie, I was never moved to see this
Slap Shot (1976)
sorry briguy but I never seen this hockey movie
Soylent Green (1973)
this movie had a very interesting concept, but it's portrayal of the future is outdated and passรฉ
Star Wars (1977)
what can you say about the first Star Wars movie
Support Your Local Gunfighter (1971)
James Garner was great in these films, I like the lady in the film to she's been gone for a very long time
Support Your Local Sheriff (1969)
see above
Time After Time (1979)
this was a film about Jack the Ripper get in HG Wells Time machine and going to disco era San Francisco
The Bad News Bears (1976)
I never got into the bad news Bears stuff
The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970)
no idea what this is
The Buddy Holly Story (1978)
this is the film that made Gary Busey a big star. I find the actual history of Buddy Holly big bopper and richie valance more interesting than a movie
The Cowboys (1972)
this title is too basic for me to remember
The Deer Hunter (1979)
I never got into this movie, isn't it the movie that made Russian roulette a popular topic?
The Driver (1978)
Oh this movie lol. I love the saxophone theme!!! But the movie is so badly dated, painful to watch today
The Exorcist (1973)
this movie was incredible in it's day
The Getaway (1972)
no opinion on this
The Godfather (1972)
can you think of any movie before the father that showed killing so realistically?
The Gauntlet (1976)
this was your classic mid-70s Clint Eastwood tough guy with Sondra Locke(don't make half your films with a girl then divorce her) I think if Clint Eastwood wasn't in this film people would probably just forgot about it
The Hot Rock (1972)
ever heard of this
The Jerk (1979)
movie was so funny, but I won't say the parts I liked the best
The Last Detail (1973)
I actually saw this film in a film appreciation class LOL
The Laughing Policeman (1973)
don't remember this
The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
this is actually an extremely good film
The Poseidon Adventure (1972)
I seen this movie I would say at least six times over the years, mostly the beginning. The girl that was a singer in the film was hot, and Pamela Sue Martin was in it when she was very young
The Rose (1979)
I hated this film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Sting (1973)
this film is awesome!!!!! It's a must see if you never seen it before, and you can appreciate the history of the 1930s Depression era
The Taking Of Pelham 123 (1974)
I've heard of this but I don't remember
The Warriors (1979)
the title is too basic
There Was a Crooked Man (1970)
this is a really neat movie if you like the topic, that is late 1800s prison mixed with a little bit comedy and a bit of "Bonanza TV" type of filming
Three Days of the Condor (1975)
I seen this over the years and I don't think I seen it from beginning to end each time, if I remember right it's pretty dated too
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974)
this is one of those films you saw once a long time ago and you laugh and then you forgot about it
True Grit (1969)
once again classic John Wayne
Up In Smoke (1978)
Cheech and Chong were so awesome in those days
Vanishing Point (1971)
if I remember right is about a guy drives a car real fast and all the sheriffs are chasing him. Like other bold and Lightfoot it's a see it once and forget about it
Walking Tall (1972)
I never got into this film because I thought it was stupid seeing a guy walking around with a big stick in his hand and everybody's afraid of him
What's Up Doc (1972)
this movie was actually an adaptation of an old Cary Grant movie will
White Lighting (1973)
same as the other films I mentioned before it are forgettable
Young Frankenstein (1974)
there is only one thing about this movie I liked that Terri Garr!!!!!!!!

Correct, as you can see from my avatar here. Just went over to my blu-ray.com profile, sorted the movies I have on blu-ray by decade and here are some ones to add to the list:

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

A Clockwork Orange (1971) - remember watching this as a little kid, when my parents were gone (along with their collection of Emmanuelle movies :) ), thinking what the hell is this. Great trippy kind of movie from my favorite director Stanley Kubrick.

Chinatown (1974)

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

Network (1976)

Raging Bull - it's 1980 but threw it in there anyway

Taxi Driver (1976)

The Last Picture Show

The Shining (1980) another 1980 but they were working on it late 70's

Those are great, the only reason why I didn't include them was because there not necessarily movies I watch over and over.
The list I made where for movies I have seen at least 20 times each.
I probably should have added those just for their greatness. :)

Alright, I've seen most of them, some I haven't. So if you've watched them at least 20 times, they have to be pretty good. Will add them to my Netflix Queue, check them out.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

This is probably the most jaw dropping film in history when looked at how much it raised the bar. Even as a kid I remembered saying "they made this in the sixties!"

Appreciate your opinion but of course I would have to disagree on the ones you didn't like because those are all my favorites :)

And the ones you didn't see, you should.
The Cowboys is a great John Wayne movie.
The Warriors is a great gang movie.
McQ is another John Wayne movie I love.

And sooner or later all movies become dated, you just have to ignore that and appreciate them for what they are.
Gone With the Wind is extremely dated but I still love watching it.
:)

Yeah, thought the exact same thing, especially the scenes inside the ship, when it's rotating - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqHjZZCCkxg&feature=fvwrel"]2001: A Space Odyssey - Training - YouTube[/ame] (somebody added Rocky music) That's 8 years before Star Wars. That's why I like Kubrick. He can do stuff like this and then go to Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket. They're all so different but all good.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

That's one I should have put on my list, that movie is by far the most advance movie ever made.
Blows away Star Wars for a realistic future.

Everything about is still looks cool to this day.
The pods, the ship.
Everything accept for one thing, the cheap wood grain paneling around Hal's red eye..lol
That's is all 1960s but other then that it is an exceptional movie. :)

GWTH was a period film it cant be dated(just old), Taxi Driver was a story about a guy in in the here and now of the date the movie was filmed. The story gets lost in the awkwardness time side show to me, I cant stand it now. Soylent Green is a movie about the future. But they missed the mark so badly about what the future would look like that its very hard to watch now.

I watched Soylent Green for the first time a few weeks ago - Soylent Green is people! The only thing I liked in the movie was the "furniture", didn't really like the movie.

GWTH was a period film

lol I know that, I was referring to the production of the movie.
Where 2001's production is advanced GWTW is dated.

Tomato, Tamoto :)

Here is McQ, but Spoiler alert its the end of the movie.
But its a cool scene. John Wayne is the first guy in movies to ever use a MAC-10 9mm machine gun :)
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXdi3Euky64"]McQ - YouTube[/ame]

Here is a critics summer of The Warriors.
Its just a bad ass movie.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTV08YaKtZY"]'The Warriors' - YouTube[/ame]

And I am not much of a Hockey fan but Slap Shot is one of the greatest sports movies ever.
Paul Newman and The Hanson Brothers are hilarious

Many great movies in the list - Thank you.

I'd add Papillon, The Great Santini and Midnight Express...+ many others. Would have listed My Bodyguard, but that came out in 80.

Watched A Clockwork Orange, along w/ some of the Death Wish themes as a fairly young child. Pisses me off just thinking about them.

Papillion a great movie, but its a guy's movie.

A Clockwork Orange, I gave up on that one as a kid too lol
