The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I just rechecked WHOIS of twi.tt - and they own it, but don't use for unknown reason.

it is potentially useful as a shortcut but also looks like a cheap hack not professional.

Why be at twat and use twi.tt when they have the actually category killer name Twitter.com ?

You seriously dont understand why they are not using twi.tt instead of twitter.com?

It's likely such prices are paid by resellers and as the domain industry matures more reselling takes place, negatively effecting the average sales price.

.com itself is a mature gTLD and as cherry picked the biggest registrants over the years, its difficult to see it become anything less the a top destination for most businesses.

From the look of the examples, with the exception of the four letter chip the rest seems like they were bought by end users on impulse. I have seen many like that. End users bought domains with an idea for a business or businesses, but it never take off.

There are many variations and factors as to why the business plan failed. They thought by having a domain it would be good enough. But starting a business involved many things. From legal requirements like business registration, payroll, and core expenses. All too often, cash flow were not considered in the equation. By the time they wait until the water to reach their feet, it's too late to jump. Just launching a website with a domain is not good enough. It takes marketing and all that entails.

The drop in resale price does not indicate the crash of .com. This can apply to any extensions. It's the practical reality of life. Many businesses started with a lot of invested cash only to be sold later for pennies on the dollars because it failed.

It's the old analogy of SW, SW, SW. Some Will, Some Won't, So What. This does not affect the growth in value of the .com. I strongly believe .com will continue to thrive many years ahead.

Just my 2 cents.

...AND Long Live the King!

.Com is not going away from the leader board anytime soon

It seems you are not familiar with the origin of the phrase...

Of course I am. Every time there is an eulogy for .com, the king, the king is just moving on stronger. The metaphor for the monarchy is quite fitting here as well?

I think it's vain to question someone's knowledge, without knowing the person? IMO:xf.smile:

The king is dead.

only in your mind. not in the real world.

top 10 sites in the world:

Google.com
Youtube.com
Facebook.com
Baidu.com
Wikipedia.org
Yahoo.com
Reddit.com
Google.co.in
Qq.com
Taobao.com

and now just for entertainment please rebrand them to .whatever to compare how ugly they would look.

I will give a few examples:

com.Google
You.Tube
Face.book
Ba.idu
wikipedia.ngo
Ya.Hoo
Red.dit
india.Google
qq.qqq
Tao.bao

= fail!!!

then explain how one could convince the shareholders of the mentioned companies to sacrifice their fine brands and domains in order to use a crappy URL no one wants in the first place.
