.com is still the best domain name to buy out there and they're certainly worth their weight in gold if you do more than park the domain or let it sit. If you develop the domain into an actual revenue generating business than it can be worth quite more than the domain itself.

I just posted prices. Excuses and conclusions are your own choices, as much as they are mine

So if someone buys .com from BrandBucket for $3000 and then drops it and it gets picked up at GD closeout at $5, that must mean .coms are really losing 99.8% of their value?

It was probably picked up for free or $5 to start with, was packaged to sell at $3K and at drop is still $5 name for wholesale (and still can be posted at $3K for end user sale)...

some of the sales look like end-user purchases to me that dropped and were sold on the reseller market again.

Yes, this is so clearly it. I don't know how the OP doesn't realize this.

Compared to a decade ago, it is more difficult to make money online, so .com prices have decreased

Tbh, i told people 2 days ago that .com prices seem to be weaker these days after seeing sedo's most recent sales report. No one is saying .com still doesnt sell, but I feel many .com end user prices have fallen. Just my 2 cents though...but this poll/thread is interesting...

A lot of the issue is probably the venue. SEDO is nothing close to what they were years ago.
Venues like GD and NameJet put up a lot of sales daily.

Fly.com :xf.smile:

1999-11-01 -- $1.5 million
2009-02-10 -- $1.76 million
2017-04-04 -- $2.89 million

Could that be due to sharp increase in global fly population from 1999 to 2017, because .com prices are supposed to be crashing?

Here's the deal. You can't generalize with saying .com. Of course, there are .com domains that have always been and will always be bad investments.

However, as domain investments go, quality, liquid .com domains are an excellent investment.

The question you are asking is like, Will LLLL .com ever be available for reg fee again? I don't believe that will be the case. Why? Because they are all registered and the registrants would not sell for that price ever.

Price is driven by demand and supply. When supply is limited, prices go up.

Stocks also fluctuate in price. The entire stock market fluctuates. However, the market recovers and comes back stronger than ever.

There is no turning back with quality .com domains. The cost of owning quality .com domains will continue to rise.....and rightfully so.

As far as new technologies go that might affect the value of .com domains, I read constantly. There will not be a change in our lifetimes that will affect the demand for quality .com domains. There may be talk about voice, google enhancements, emoji domains, etc., but none will affect the demand for quality .com domains.

:O

wut. . .

I could agree with u in terms of like, domaining

but LOL making money online is probably more profitable now. I mean there's SEO. . . YouTube (youtube wasn't so big 10 years ago), Instagram. Etc. etc.

Oh and u know, crypto *silent giggle*

Single Words which have no use as a business name will fluctuate with the market but if you have a business name then there are times the .com can be very valuable.

I keep saying that paying crazy money for shoes.com cannot possibly pay off in the end. Who goes on the internet and punches in shoes.com or just shoes when they search.

I will punch Rockport Shoes into search and quickly find exactly the shoes I am looking for. So the guy that registered RockportShoes.com made a sale to me or maybe even the guy that used CheapRockportShoes.com.

Eventually whoever buys shoes.com figures out they don't need the domain and will resell it at a loss. A descriptive domain name or a business name domain makes so much more sense to me.

If my business name is Hilltop Roofers then I want HilltopRoofers.com and I will pay for it. Roofers.com is a generic search term and if I am based in California I don't necessarily want some guy from Virginia calling me about his roof because he saw me on google.

So many variables with domain names that trying to fit sales into a narrow margin or category is doomed to be inaccurate.
