and as usual i receive a couple of notices that domain is expiring.
HiI feel like I have the grounds to take legal actions against godaddy
Hello everyone, so I usually don't post much here on Namepros but I feel like this time it really is the case to do so.
I have plenty of domains with different registrars, including Godaddy, with which I have around 50. One of these domains of mine (Wales.xyz) at godaddy was expiring and as usual i receive a couple of notices that domain is expiring.
This was the last email notice i received by Godaddy about the domain:

For the people that don't know italian, it says that the domain is RECOVERABLE within July 12th as long as the steps given are FOLLOWED.
Out of context, I'm 19 years old, I am a medicine student here in Italy and it was a period I was full of lectures and most importantly full of exams.
The domain wasn't much important to me and I decide to give priority to my med school exams and what I do is I TAKE NOTE DOWN of the last email notice given by godaddy and set myself a reminder to renew the domain on July 12th.
On July 12th I log into my godaddy account to follow the steps listed in the email I received and to my surprise the domain is GONE from my account.
I immediately contact Godaddy's chat through SMS and they replied so late that it became July 13th and told me that I couldn't renew it cause the deadline given was actually July 12th. But no, I clearly am aware that I tried to renew it on July 12th because I STICK to deadlines, but the domain wasn't in my account anymore.
So I take a more in depth research and find out that the domain was SOLD at a public auction on July 7th for mid 3 figure range.

I felt so confused. I go navigate on the web searching for Godaddy's terms and find out that after 30 days from expiry they do put the domain in a public auction and I looked for my domain expiry date (June 2nd) and it did seem to align with their terms but CERTAINLY NOT with the notice given to me. As I said, it isn't a domain of much value to me and I was full of med school exams so I didn't really delve into godaddy's terms for expired domains and just went with their email notice of me having time till July 12th to recover the domain as long as those steps were taken.
I don't really see another perspective to this.... the email is very objective and as someone who is mother tongue italian it leaves little to no interpretation of it. It doesn't talk about an auction, it doesn't talk about whether there are bids or no bids in that auction, it just says you can RECOVER your domain as long as those steps are taken. That's why the fact that a few days before the domain was sold by them in an auction got me stunned. If the email notices I received aligned with their terms, i would agree that it would've been totally on me but this email is CLEARLY deceiving.
I get this email is standardized and most likely is sent to everyone.... but because of how it is sent and the words it uses you make people think that they have time to renew a domain till a certain deadline when as per your terms they don't.
I have talked about this issue to @Joe Styler but it looks like his position within godaddy has kinda changed and he has different responsibilities so he directed me towards the godaddy handle itself.
i will tag the Godaddy handle as well @GoDaddy
I am NOT expecting you to retrieve the domain from the current owner (which btw i don't find right and honest) as he legitimately won the domain in the auction by being the highest bidder, but the problem is that i should have not been given a fake deadline to recover my domain and i should've been aware of the domain going to auction
Given the nature of this accident I do however expect that, if you're honest and most importantly you value your reputation in the domain world, that you do transfer to me the income you got from my domain to me. I do have a lot of domains with you and wouldn't take them away for such an accident, but believe me, as all the most prominent domainers in the community, I do value reputation a lot and think it's the top priority in the domain industry as a whole - for both registrars and domainers.
I will end by saying that I feel like I have the grounds to take legal actions against godaddy due to the deceiving nature of the email which clearly gives a deadline which isn't true. I hope I will not have to test my grounds.
I look forward you doing the right thing and transferring those around 400 bucks to me. Better for me, better for you, you would look like a serious and transparent company, better for your rep as a whole. Mistakes get made all the time. Important thing is to take responsibility when they happen.
Best

Be a responsible domainer there is no need to lay deception accusations because you choose to do business at the stroke of midnight.

For context, since the original post was edited to remove everything, the domain was registered a June 2nd, no year was provided, it therefore expired on June 2nd of this year, they attempted to renew it on July 12th by contacting GoDaddy support since the domain was no longer in their portfolio given someone had already bid on it, they got a reply on the 13th, the reason why they took so long to attempt to renew it is because they received an email from GoDaddy telling them that they could renew it until July 12th and that they were busy with med school exams, so they understandably preferred to focus on the latter.I'd prefer not to reread 'War and Peace', so please just answer these three questions: When did you register the domain? When did it expire? When did you attempt to renew it?
