Hi guys,

I registered the domain name www.Chunjie.Info recently. The word "Chunjie" means Chinese New Year/Spring Festival:
Chunjie (春节) - Spring Festival widely known as Chinese New Year in the West, is the most important traditional festival and most important celebration for families in China. It is an official public holiday, during which most Chinese have 7 days off work.

Google Search results for the keyword "Chunjie" - https://www.google.com/search?q=chunjie

The domain www.Chunjie.com is registered to a Chinese domainer (no surprises!) and he has put it for sale at a price he believes "will be a miracle in the Chinese domain name history." He has put this message (translated) on the website:
Spring DAVID level domain: chunjie.com Registration Date 1998 Spring Festival, is the most influential on the world festival history! Spring Festival, the world's most important Chinese holiday, a symbol of joy, celebration, reunion, is focused on the release of the Chinese nation for thousands of years of culture. Spring Festival, as long as the Chinese people, whether it is close or far away, embrace every home! Spring Festival, the entire global Chinese world jubilation! Chinese New Year these days, China's railway full, a ticket is hard, the world's largest population movement staged a grand! Spring Festival, is red. During the Spring Festival, the Chinese world of personal consumption reached its peak a year! Spring Festival, is the most sacred festival of the world's largest population! The domain of immeasurable value, once the transaction, will be a miracle in the history of Chinese domain names, the Internet in China is a miracle! Benefit explosive news! This domain is for sale contact holder: 1 3 5 0 1 0 8 8 1 7 0 Email: wolangba # 163.com (Please replace the @ #)

So what do you guys think Chunjie.info could be worth? It can be developed into an information site and/or an event directory for tourists and Chinese Immigrants in every country of the world to find out what Spring Festival events are taking place in their localities. For example, a Chinese family living in the US could visit Chunjie.Info and see what events are happening in New York.

Any ideas?

Registering a domain for the meaning but ignoring the extension is a mistake.

The .info extension is not strong and are difficult to sell and the Chinese aren't rushing out and grabbing .info names

The use for a name like this is limited as well and can only really be an informational site, and for a site like that, you wont get anyone wanting to pay decent money for it

When registering names, try and focus on the decent extensions first and then look at keywords, end-users, domain use etc etc

Good luck though

I did not ignore the extension. If the .com or .net was available then obviously I would have registered them, its a no brainer really? Chunjie being a really valuable word all the extensions were taken.I think I was lucky .info was available. Its a single word domain name which is the name of the most celebrated festival in the world's biggest population.Cost me $4.99, was too good a risk to let go.If the .com is asking for astronomical prices then wouldn't the equivalent .info be worth at least a fraction of it?its the same name/keyword after all??

But thanks for your advice!

Sorry..I am not being respectful here, just trying to help, but this is the most common mistake a new domainer makes...just because its taken, you think you cant have it or you pick a worse extension. Would you rather have the .COM

1) Check if the name is developed? Its not by the way..

2) Check when the name was registered?

3) Who registered the name, what country they are from and how many other names they own (use whoisology.com for this) - This will tell you if they are a domainer/reseller or not?

Email the owner of the name and find out if its for sale and how much, you will surprised at how cheap you can get names from existing owners. I mean, dont settle for a lesser extension just because the name is taken? if the .COM was a developed website, then I can understand moving onto another extension, but if its just sitting there and not being used, what is the harm in finding out the price?

As an example, in 2011, I wanted a certain cloud computing name, it was taken so I emailed the owner and we discussed a price, he was asking $500 for the name, which to me was a bargain anyway and I would have paid that if he hadn't budged, I got the name for $135 and it sold for $8500 18 months later

All I'm saying is make sure the best extensions arent available, and then check the price range as well..to be honest, a better strategy would be if the .COM is not available at a good price, rather move onto a different keyword, the lesser extensions are really hard to sell

Hope that helps

If you like the keyboard ChunJie, you could register ChunJie.us, which is better than ChunJie.info.
And the ChunJie.us is available on Alpnames for only $4.68.

Why would .us be better? Only people with a residence in USA can use it.

Exactly my thought. I think I'd rather try sell Chunjie.info which would apply to majority of locations worldwide than Chunjie.us which only targets the US

IMO there are more than 3000000 Chinese American in US and most of them celebrate the Chunjie.
So Chunjie.us can be used for commercial use such as building a website to sell Chinese spring festival gift.
but Chunjie.info is only to used for providing information and it will be hard to sell to endusers.
what's more, us also means ourselves besides the United States. As we all know, Chunjie is a day for family gathering together and reunion. so I think .us is match the ChunJie well.

Oh I misunderstood your meaning. I thought you were saying that the .us extension in general was better to invest in than .info
