Thanks. I just received this as a Yahoo Alert and was confused because I have alert’s set up for both domain names (obviously) and UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) and this came with the title UMPC.

Then I noticed this in the article:

A pair of sites named for ultra-mobile personal computing (umpc.cn and umpc.com.cn), one of the hottest technologies around, fetched an eye-popping 390,000 yuan ($49,000).

Now I admit that I have a vested interest in UMPC domain names (I own more than 40) and by coincidence, yesterday, I entered two in next Thursday’s live auction but I find it very interesting that CNN would refer to UMPC’s as “one of the hottest technologies around”.

I haven’t so much as had one bid, not one on any of my UMPC domain names yet and I own some very nice ones.

You probably will see some movement now. Announcements on shows like CNN tend to do that.

So its one new type of tablet PC? If so, then I don't see the appeal for UMPC domains...

UMPC is just one of many, what I like to call, Go PC devices... Laptops, Notebooks, UMPCs, Tablets, PDAs, Pocket PCs, BlackBerry, Treo, Smartphones, even iPods and such.

PCs on the GO... that's what this entire market is becomming.

But seriously, Bill Gates describes this market as the next greatest technological advancement to face computing. That's why Microsoft dumped so much into the "Origami Project" in order to develope a software package to integrate Windows XP into a full version compatible Moble PC product.

Now EVERYONE is on Board. As Kimmy pointed out, CNN even called this "one of the hottest technologies around". Huge manufacturers such as Samsung, Intel, MS are getting into the "Go PC" business.

Hopefully soon, they will forget about these long and ellusive branding names like "Ultra Mobile Personal Computer" and "Tablet Kiosk" and TiQit and so on and just call them like they are...

the reason for this kind of sale is the same as for why google, yahoo etc stay in china despite succumbing to those restrictions on citizens........the chinese market is too huge and profitable to ignore
