Cgi VS php

With php you can develope websites that can be configured with only a few things (Usually just one file). And creating a database.

CGI you have to chmod files correctly corresponding to which modules your using (i think thats how it is) if you use the incorrect chmod the CGI will just not execute therefor a VERY bad language that most people cannot install without CGI knowledge.

So my choice, is php. PHP scales better in highend projects than CGI.

Recently read in a magizine there is over 15,000,000 websites that use PHP and around 1,000,000 that use CGI. This tells you automaticly php is the choice.

Well, I guess you really need to define what you mean by "cgi". All the languages that you can execute on shell to produce normal text output, can be used as CGI including PHP, Perl, C, C++, Java, Pascal, etc.

yes i meant perl, im very new to the programming languages...the only reason i asked this question is because i bought a script a few days ago that is perl based and so far i think its pretty cool.. but that is just my opnion.

just because the script is cool doesnt mean to say the language used is the best, the same could most likely be achieved in php or asp etc.

I personally prefer php, I have looked at perl but did not get on with it at all

Perl can be a real power house if you use mod_perl. It gives you access to apache handler at any phase in request. It's more of a preference. Some people even prfer to use PHP as CGI in production on powerful boxes to reduce memory leaks and improve performance.

But, if you want to compare PHP & Perl, you should probably be comparing mod_perl v/s PHP.
