Trafffic Estimator
I use the Overture tool data to optimize web sites. I have been doing this for many years and it works well, but you have to keep some things in mind. One is that they combine words with and without the "s" at the end (word and words for example). They also show you a word order that combines more than one order ( "proper nouns" and "nouns proper") are both displayed in one of those two ways.
For SEO is is not too critical. Having the words in the proper or most popular order is best, but having them next to each other is also good. But for domains, it may be more important to have them in the proper order that most people use to search with. In some cases it may be better to have them reversed, since there may be less competition. I prefer to use the most popular word order.
So how can you do this with OVT? Well, you can't. What I suggest is to use the
Google Traffic Estimator. Here is how I use it:
- Enter in one keyword, like "baseball" without quotes. Then enter it again with brackets "[baseball]" to see numbers for the keyword entered without anything else.
- Choose Max CPC. If you want to see the high bid range, use up to $100. I generally use $50 unless I am check lawyer or financial keywords.
- For the daily budget, enter a big number like 500 or 9999 it doesn't matter since you aen't going to be spending anything.

- I generally select all Countries, but if you are parking where only US traffic is used, you can change that to get a more accurate number.
In this example you will see two things: 1) that the keyword without brackets has a higher search volume, and this is because the system is showing you the total for "baseball" and also things like "baseball game". It's not accurate for what we want, but still gives you an idea of the popularity. And 2) that the bid price range for just baseball is lower than the other varations. (glove, bat, ticket, players, etc.) And this is how it should be since the keyword by itself is very un-targeted in this case.
Try using this for multi-word domains and you may find some good ones!
P.S. Once you find keywords you like, enter them into Google or Yahoo and see how many ads show up. If there are no paid ads, then they are not as good for parking. If there are lots of paid ads then those should be good.
