Best places to sell different types of names?

I thought I'd start a new thread about the different sales options, and what types of sales people think they are each best for, in your opinion. Let me know if there's a similar thread.

Everyone would have their own thoughts of course. But if we reach some sort of rough consensus it might be a useful resource to have on hand.

Do you agree, or disagree, with:

End Users - Geo/ generic products and services, SEO keywords, business' abbreviations

Sedo - Higher value names

Namepros and forums - Quick deals to other resellers. Specialised buyers looking for specific characteristics, extensions etc. Bulk deals.

Ebay - Wacky names, names with trademark issues, convoluted and superficially valuable sounding names. Might get lucky names.

TDNAM - Traffic names, cheaper aged names, quick guarantee sales

Afternic Bazaar - Making a few bucks instead of dropping names

etc.
Thoughts?

HI

Here are my thoughts..

End Users - If you know how to find an end user or you are lucky.. not easy to find an end user.

Sedo - Very slow way to sell domains... unless they are very good.

Namepros and forums - Great for quick flips and offloading domains that are just about to expire.

Ebay - if you know what you are selling you can make money here but a lot of cheap scapes looking for bargains.

TDNAM - I found this is a good place to sell domains that are hot...

Afternic Bazaar - have not tried them for year.. and think they are not promoting this service much anymore.

Thanks
Tom

^ rep for your thoughts on TDNAM and bazaar.

Add these to the highly debatable category:
Brokers - (Medium or high priced names, that you want to sell faster than on Sedo, or medium priced names you want to sell higher than on Sedo)?

Afternic - Medium or high priced names, you want to sell higher than on Namepros, and faster than on Sedo?

I have found it easier to find an end user for a domain like "buypickles.com" that is highly targeted, than a domain like "investing.com". Just because it is much easier to target a smaller group who highly value a domain.

You are dead on about ebay. You can also add dictionary.com domains in a weird tense.

great ebay/ end user thoughts

:)

i guess my main impetus for starting the thread is - i've heard lots of people with problems selling (a) at forums (names not selling, or perceived as selling under value) and (b) at sedo (generally a long time to get an offer and in getting things to auction). both are the cheapest easiest ways, but not always the best for all names.

if we could delineate all the various options we might have a better sense of where to send names, and have a more positive domaining experience.

I love Namepros, but it isn't my favorite place to sell honestly. It is a good place to sell marginal domains, but for anything big I would go with SEDO probably. There is just more exposure there for the top domains.

can you define 'marginal' a little bit? and what about when you want to sell something in-between?

or do you choose one or the other category - and decide to just flip at NP, or hold for the long term at sedo?

"Marginal" to me just means a standard domain. Maybe something two words and brandable, but no specific end users. I have been most successful buying niche domains with fewer narrowly targeted end users. These ones slip through the cracks as expired domains all the time.

My first preference is end user.

1.) I will contact the end user and basically let them know why they need the domain. Normally the first place I target is lower TLD's if they are developed sites.

Anything that is highly value like LLLL.com CVCV, Pronounceable, etc. Sedo will maximize the exposure. More exposure = higher price.

rep added!

what surprises me is people aren't saying they use afternic much.

has anyone had any luck using a site on the net to broker/connect with end users?

and what are the decisions based on when people decide between NP, DNF, and TDNAM?

I have never used Afternic to sell. Last time i checked there was like a $60 minimum fee or something. I will only buy from them.

i heard $20 is possible from someone here, but haven't checked that

I'm giving NP a shot for 30 so-so domains and a few nicer ones.

Cannot argue with the fees and commissions! Turnaround is pretty good.

I'm looking into using afternic and tdnam more.

I just joined Afternic and have not had time to read up about the cost properly yet but I thought you could list there for free and pay a % of the sale?

I left Afternic for good before 1.5 years
Had very few domain views compared to Sedo or TDNam and no interest at all

I agree with soggyindo with all of his comments and especially for Afternic i want to add "Afternic Bazaar - Making a few bucks instead of dropping names" ... if you're lucky
