This is the first time I've personally seen a reputable person say that it's going to be in the trillions. I've seen at most hundreds of billions. I think he could be right and the thought has definitely crossed my mind, given the amount of impact AR will have. But we're talking 10 years. I moved to Finland in 2010 and it's already 2018....That time blew by so fast that it felt like 4 years to be honest. Not just from moving to a new country but also having kids and getting a divorce haha...it's a lot to stuff in 8 years so it kept me busy.

My point is that the time between and say 7 - 10 years from now when AR is everywhere could go by super fast if you are living a busy, productive fun life. Many of us will see great returns before then, but the largest returns may come to those who hold out on selling their names until AR is nearly at it's prime.

In the beginning of this thread people were posting that they think AR would explode in 2014. It's 4 years later and we are now saying 2025ish. So these time estimates can change too....

See TIME's 'Optimist' Issue in Augmented Reality

On Friday, Jan. 5, you can pick up a copy of TIME’s first augmented reality-enhanced issue, guest edited by Bill Gates.

Throughout the issue, you’ll find special AR experiences powered by RYOT Lab, including behind-the-scenes videos, infographics and animations. The cover features an animation narrated by Gates which tells the story of Mohamad Nasir, an Ethiopian boy, who Gates first met shortly after Mohamad’s birth in 2012. Mohamad’s fifth birthday should be a cause of celebration for many as it exemplifies the improving child survival rates in Ethiopia and throughout the world.

The Jan. 15 issue also features an animated AR infographic created with Bono, the lead singer of U2 and co-founder of ONE and (RED), on the importance of closing the gender gap in education. Inspired by drawings created by Bono, the infographic shows how wide the gap is between boys and girls education, and what would happen if that gap was closed.

    AR Piano (.com)

Decided to do this one because PianoOnline (.com) sold for $30,000 in August 2017 and some companies/devs have been playing with AR Piano concepts for quite a few years now.

Nvidia reveals new AI platforms for smart assistants and AR in the car

Nvidia revealed a lot of news about its Xavier autonomous machine intelligence processors at this year’s CES show in Las Vegas. The first production samples of the Xavier are now shipping out to customers, after being unveiled last year, and Nvidia also announced three new variants of its DRIVE AI platform, which are based around Xavier SoCs.

The new DRIVE AI offerings include one focused on putting augmented reality into vehicles, in ways that Nvidia says could enhance and transform the driving experience. The company’s automotive lead, Danny Shapiro, believes that just as AR has become an increasingly fundamental part of the smartphone experience, so too will it become natural and even essential in cars.

DRIVE AR offers developers an SDK that will allow developers to build experiences that tap into computer vision, graphics and artificial intelligence capabilities to do things like overlay information about road conditions, points of interest and other real-world locations using interactive in-car displays.

Augmented reality on the web, for everyone ( GOOGLE AR AND VR )

In the next few months, there will be hundreds of millions of Android and iOS devices that are able to provide augmented reality experiences - meaning you'll be able to look at the world through your phone, and place digital objects wherever you look. To help bring this to as many users as possible, we've been exploring how to bring augmented reality to the web platform, so someday anyone with a browser can access this new technology. In this post, we’ll take a look at a recent prototype we built to explore how AR content could work across the web, from today’s mobile and desktop browsers, to future AR-enabled browsers. Techies, take note: the last section of the post focuses on technical details, so stick around if you want to dig deeper.

This is huge. There are companies that only do this kind of stuff, so when this goes public they will be at risk of going belly up.

This may soon be common place on e-commerce sites that sell stuff like furniture.

Apple's AR apps will finally be able to stick things on walls

When iOS 11.3 launches, it'll pack tech developers can use to make their augmented reality apps do things they've never been able to do before.

Games that let you bounce virtual balls off the floor and wall. Apps that make you feel like you're at the 1969 moon landing after pointing your phone at a poster.

These are a couple of the new things you'll be able to do on your iPhone and iPad with Apple's augmented reality update, ARKit 1.5. The software, which is part of the upcoming iOS 11.3 release, will pack new features to enable richer apps. That includes the ability to places items on vertical walls and doors, not just horizontal surfaces like tables. It also has image detection for signs, posters and artwork, and it supports higher resolution for the real-world images you see on your screen.

There was a recent sell under NA of ARP*rno.com. You just got 2 offers. It's good to be cautious but there's also reason to be positive about the good possibilities as well. It's not like AR is as far as VR, so lots of potential ahead.
