Basic issue, easily addressed, :imho: .

Don't let users edit their OP on auctions and sales. Too many users are going back and adding in reserves, changing terms when things get messy, etc. I know that we catch a lot of them, but one way to resolve a lot of ill will is just to make the first post in each thread uneditable. Any changes to the original listing will need to be made inlinea, that way there is a time stamp to show changes based in respect to any bids.

Please.

I understand the idea. But sometimes, there are spelling errors, etc. that the poster notices and wants to fix.

Would letting the post be editable until a reply has been posted seem like a better idea?

Just a thought :] !

I know that after I end my sales I usually go back and edit out the first post to remove prices, many buyers also request this as they dont want people to see what they paid for the name.

When it comes to large lists of names for sale you also have to be able to remove some names from the original post which have been sold, saves the buyer/looker from having to view all the posts to find out what names are sold and which are still avail.

I guess it wouldnt be bad for Auctions as the sale price wouldnt be in the first post and once all auction info is posted no changes should be made.

Maybe it would be best if a log were kept for each edit so you could check the times at which posts were edited, and what exactly was edited.

I definitely agree on auctions, and see the points made above about the sales.
Are there any drawbacks to the auction idea, aside from the possibility of spelling mistakes?

I too agree that for the auctions, some general rules should be outlined. Both for bidders and sellers.

Sellers should not be allowed to change auctions terms at all once the initial post has been made. That's not to say spelling errors, and other errors of that nature can't be edited. However, if you forget to state a reserve price and the bidding starts... next time you will remember, but this time your auction has NO RESERVE!

Buyers should not be allowed to change their bid once it has been placed. There was recently an incident where a bidder changed their bid to a lower one right before the auction was about to end.

I think we already have all of these rules. The issue would be our enforcing them for those that don't see fit to follow them, where the "evidence trail" could be a little lacking.
Am I misunderstanding the issue as stated?
