Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Watch
Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
That Cloud Broker Program sounds like a great way to get a UDRP, have wannabe brokers spam trademark owners. Glad it's opt-in only
Trademark owners can already monitor the desired keywords in all domains on auto-pilot, for example: https://www.domaintools.com/products/platform/iris-detect/
https://research.domaintools.com/monitor/brand-monitor/
You shouldn't register trademark-infringing domains in the first place.
But you can opt-out your domains on a case by case basis.

This isn't the point. As soon as you start actively promoting a domain to a TM holder, this could be detrimental to a domain that would not be at risk without that active, targeted, promotion. This can make the difference in UDRP.

I've enabled it for all of my domains, let's see how it goes. I get more promotion for free (it doesn't cost any extra for the sellers) compared to others who haven't enabled this feature.

They have updated the terms:

https://helpdesk.atom.com/en/articles/9627442-atom-com-cloud-broker-program

Keep on giving feedback. I asked them add the option to add domains to Cloud Brokerage from Domains Listing page.

Right now when you try to Generate the link: You'll see this message to Apply to become the Cloud Broker.

"Currently this program is only available to Approved Cloud Brokers. Click here to apply to become a Cloud Broker"

There's been some great discussion and feedback since we announced this program. Here are a few points that might be helpful:

1. Becoming a Cloud Broker requires approval. While anyone can apply, Atom will approve Cloud Brokers based on their experience and proposed approach. This isn't intended to be a "free for all."

2. This program isn't solely focused on outbound sales. There are three main intended participants:
- Those who outbound domains to potential buyers.
- Content creators and bloggers who write about naming and branding topics (e.g. "10 best domains for Health AI startups").
- Established businesses like branding agencies and CPAs who can pitch relevant names from our Marketplace to their existing clients.

That said, there are risks with outbounding domains and trademarks, which is why the program allows sellers to opt-out certain domains or their entire portfolio. A large % of domains on the Atom Marketplace do not have TM conflicts, and this program can help increase exposure for those domains.

Long-term, we plan to feature successful Cloud Brokers who have shown consistent results, allowing sellers to work one-on-one with them on their portfolios.

As with our other Beta offerings, this program will evolve based on ongoing learnings and feedback. And ultimately, if it doesn't work as expected, as they say:

Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

I am posting this here to show the risks of outbounding.

Case in point: Young.com vs Young Pharmaceuticals. The CEO, John Kulesza, attempted to hijack the Young.com domain through a UDRP filing after inquiring about its price.

The broker involved in the sale did nothing wrong and was simply doing their job. A cautionary tale for domain investors and brokers alike
After purchasing the disputed domain from Mr. Young, the Respondent tried to sell the disputed domain name, and shortly after that, on March 17, 2024, engaged a broker (Mr. Harbin of Grit Brokerage) to find potentially interested buyers for the disputed domain name plus two other domain names (madam.com and perplexity.com) owned by the Respondent. Mr. Harbin identified over 20 prospects to notify that the disputed domain name had become available to purchase, one being the Complainant.

In April 2024, Mr. Harbin sent an email the Complainant and to the other prospects on his list. The same email wording was used for all prospects. Mr. Harbin has received several substantial offers to purchase the disputed domain name because of his efforts but not surprisingly has ceased his marketing and sales efforts due to the present dispute.

The Complainant’s CEO responded to Mr. Harbin’s email, stating “Thank you for letting us know about this interesting opportunity. Can you give us an idea of cost?” Mr. Harbin stated that the disputed domain name was available for purchase for USD 699,999. An email exchanged ensured, with the Complainant’s CEO expressing interest in the disputed domain name but requiring more time as he wanted input from others in his organization.

At about the same time, the Complainant’s legal counsel submitted a complaint to the Registrar regarding the disputed domain name. The Complainant’s legal counsel did not identify that they were acting for the Complainant or identify the Complainant’s trademark, and the Complainant’s CEO did not mention this to Mr. Harbin. Mr. Harbin responded to the Registrar’s correspondence in respect of the complaint by emailing the Complainant’s legal counsel on April 10, 2024, asking for further information. The Complainant’s legal counsel did not respond to Mr. Harbin. Two weeks later, the Complainant filed the present Complaint.

This is a good question, I'd like to know the answer too. What do we do with expiring Premiums that no one wants? If we let them expire - are we "dinged" by Atom?

They have SquadHelp / Atom owned domains, which I think are domains that were turned over to them. Try asking customer service.

if you submitted without coins, months. With coins a few days if early expert approved, ~1-2 weeks if not

A company that would file a UDRP over an outbound email, would likely consider a UDRP over a domain listed for sale as well. These companies don't understand how Trademark laws work in regards to domains, and are willing to lose a few grand instead of paying 6-7 figures for a domain.

Is anybody having trouble receiving payments from SquadHelp to your Payoneer account balance? Have you received a payment from SquadHelp directly to your Payoneer account balance in the last ten days?

Thanks.

It's now time for Atom to implement 2fa just like the other marketplaces.
