In any case, though I may be wrong, I think domainers are just selling to domainers, hence accounting for lower prices in general. End user companies may well value them at much higher prices. The problem is how to get to these end users in the first place and lay your domains out for their consideration.

Not every end user scans the aftermarket sites regularly for names. In fact, I think very few do. They are busy doing actual business. But that doesn't mean they won't be interested in buying if a value proposition is put before them. I think the industry seems to be lacking just this concerted link to end users.

And did you read the contract you signed with Moniker as well? It stipulates:

NON CIRCUMVENTION: In addition to any other rights Buyer/Seller Agent may have, during the term of this Agreement and for a period of two (2) years following the termination of this Agreement, Seller shall not, directly or indirectly:

a.Make contact or attempt to make contact, solicit or attempt to solicit, negotiate or attempt to negotiate, enter into or attempt to enter into any agreement, and/or transact or attempt to transact any business with any potential purchaser (or such purchaser’s attorneys, agents (other than Moniker), representatives, employees, officers, directors, principals, owners, shareholders, members, managers or any person or entity that is connected, directly or indirectly, with such purchaser) procured by or introduced to Seller by Moniker, except to the extent such contact is through, or with the prior written consent of, Moniker; and

b.Commit any other acts, directly or indirectly, which would affect in any way
whatsoever, circumvent the restrictive covenant stated in subparagraph 3(a) immediately above.

c.In the event that Seller violates the provisions of Section 3(a) or (b), Buyer/Seller Agent shall be entitled to receive the Fee (as hereinafter defined).

Anyway, I can't see where are those end users you are talking about. I as a European have absolutely 0 interest in .eu, because commercially it is not viable. Why would companies be interested in .asia?

As far as end users are concerned, it appears that many people are viewing this as some end user will not give up their identity for a domain name.

No one is asking them to do that. That would be the most assinine thing any company could do. Give up the branding you created for a domain name?

No, end users should be companies whose interests can be increased by the addition of a targeted domain. All domains route down to the same company web site. It is like how may doors do you want into your buildng to make access easier for people to come and buy?

I'll give a simple example:

The largest gold exchange in the world is Thailand...Bangkok to be specific.

Now, is this the ONLY gold exchange in the world? Absolutely, not.

Their domain is GoldTraders.au/Thai. As we all lmow, au is the symbol for gold from the table of elements and Thai is an abbreviation for Thailand.

Nice name very descriptive and I am sure very effective.

What is the differnce?

Well, on first glance GoldTraders.asia sounds bigger than GoldTraders.au/Thai because the Thai has localized the name. Everyone knows Thailaind is IN Asia. and not bigger THAN Asia.

Now, is GoldTraders.au/Thai supposed to quickly acquire GoldTraders.asia and use that as their brand new domain? I think we have already answered the folly of doing that.

But who would be best served by acquiring GoldTraders.asia?

If anyone misses that answer of GoldTraders.au/Thai ...then I can offer nothing more by want of explanation.

GoldTraders.asia in the hands of the Thailand exchange augments their presence and expends it mentally in the minds of viewers, as encompassing all of Asia. Do you think if they had that name, they would say " Oh. we don't want to use that name. we want to show our national pride to the Thai people."

In the hands of someone else it becomes a competitive name with a seemingly larger presence.

Now, if everyone can get away from the singular mindset that a certain domain must define a company or industry, they will then be capable of understanding end user marketing strategy.

Domains should be marketed as alternative routing identities to existing businesses by letting new players in that market know about them also. And that is creating the market to end users by letting them be aware that some new player to their arena can very well become a successful competitor... very quickly with the right domain name.

Now, I wait for someone to tell me that they see GoldTraders.au/Thai as sounding like a bigger presence than GoldTraders.asia.

But don't just tell me that is how you see it. Explain it to me in detail beacuse I am not all that bright and it has to sink in.

Domains are tools and it is all about how they are presented and pointed towards end users. Tools can have different results depending on who is using them.

A knife is the hands of a madman is a problem. A knife in the hands of a skilled surgeon can save your life.

I'm actually quite a big believer that dotasia will appeal more to "Western" end users hoping to brand themselves as having a keen eye on Asia.

Of course, we don't have to be totally oblivious to the standards and metrics used by domainers to measure the quality of a domain name. We can still ensure that the name is a desirable keyword, has high overture, wordtracker, good ads, etc. It seems like the only thing domainers don't like is the dotasia extension. But here is where the standards of evaluation may differ for end users.

Hence a domain name like BusinessFunding.asia or InvestmentCompany.asia or StockReports.asia can have special resonance with the right end user hoping to use the domain name and extn to brand themselves accordingly.

On the topic of having a business that does concerted selling of dotasia domains to end users, there are governments that have economic agencies set up in foreign countries where their main job is to (literally) go from building to building in major cities asking who would want to invest or set up shop in their country to do business, and helping them do so when they agree.

A similar concerted approach could apply to dotasia domain names. Say you know of a business that offers consultancy services for companies hoping to expand into Asia. If you have dotasia domain names, you can tie up with this business to sell the expanding companies dotasia domain names.

Just a crazy idea, you may say, but the real problem as I see it is the lack of marketing to end users who may see the value of the dotasia product (in terms different from domainer evaluation) but not know the option even exists. Which comes down to a single point. We need better marketing of dotasia to the right end users!

I think if you spent $50K, I really hope you can make some sales before renewal hits again. But all you need is just $100 for each name and you would have made 5 times profit.

Small sales with volume can be quite impactful.

my thoughts exactly, whats the point of buying diver.asia for $13499 or sushi.asia for $22500, what are the chances of doubling your money on these names, and i own sushi.com.au if anyone is interested, i wonder what sushi.com.au is worth then?

every LLL.asia is gone, csl.asia went for $11000 and pos.asia went for $20500, what would be the minimum price for the worst LLL.asia, are they worth $100/$250/$500?

I have a list of about 200 .asia names which I did not register because of a lack of $$$. I said to myself that I was going to stop registering at 100 names, but that changed and my list slowly crept up to 150 names! I am now done registering unless I can sell a few names and take the proceeds and register a few more.

That said I keep seeing so much negativity from various people here who think .asia sucks or this or that, but what these posters are mainly doing is scaring the "noobs" - a word my son would use. So while the "noobs" sit on the sideline wondering whether to invest in .asia - many names are disappearing fast to those who aren't afraid to take a risk. Many of the names are also being snapped up by big companies. Case in point: "chivalry.asia". I had this name on my list, but didn't register it. While checking names on my unregistered list the other day I noticed the name was gone and purchased on June 02 by Pernod Ricard Pacific Ltd. Now Google the name and you will see that they are huge!

Many other generic names I had hopes of purchasing I noticed are going fast. Hindsight is 20/20, but I should have registered this one, but I didn't. If you listen to the naysayers you will miss a golden opportunity. You don't need to buy 150 names like I did, but just buy what you can afford. Worse case scenario I could sell my names for double the cost I paid for them and the return would still be better than any investments out there now in the marketplace. Maybe doubling your money is chump change to some domainers here, but in my books a 100% return is nothing to be ashamed of!

Damn, they were at auction too. So even if he got them for $10, add that to the reg fee and each one is at least $35. You have to assume that some other bidders put up a fight on some of them, so yeah, that haul could be astronomical in price.

<edit> Hang on, these were landrush, so that was min of 2 year reg - so each domain would be at least $55 or so. wow.
