There are indicators that the strong demand for domain names from the last couple of years has waned recently, amid current world events and state of the economy. Or possibly simply because the move to digital that was spawned by the pandemic could not keep growing indefinitely.

Have you seen a decline in sales/offers in last 30 days?

As well as voting, please feel free to elaborate through comments. I may write a NamePros Blog article on this topic, so if you comment here, I will presume it will be alright to quote for the article from comments received.

Thank you very much.

Bob

I have been doing well, but I have a smallish portfolio and my sales are always pretty random, so I can't really draw any larger conclusions from my data.

my year so far has been ok - many 4-5 figure sales, but no 6.

i've had about 10 offers per week, but my counters have often resulted in stalemates.

most sales have been BIN

my key word sales: NFT META, DAO, PAY, BET, CASINO, WIN

7 DAO sales in 2022 from high 4 figures to high 5 figures

extensions: .COM, .IO

overall my grade for sales, 2022: B-

venues for my closing sales: AFTERNIC, 1 at NAMECHEAP MARKETPLACE, 2 at DAN, 7 via GD brokers

9 domain negotiations at SEDO - none closed

Interesting. Have you been reporting those 4 and 5 figure sales to NameBio? Sounds like you qualify to be a pro badge If your sales are that good 5 months into a year.

It's been slow in the last 30 days. Less offers/inquiries/sales. I suspect it's due to uncertain situations globally including the war, stock market, inflation, etc. It may get even more worse before getting better.

However, things have not changed in the aftermarket where people are paying crazily high prices in domain auctions. This I believe will only go more up in prices because there are plenty of investors having loads of cash to invest in domain names.

Overall, I will say it's been an increase for me compared to previous years. So, I voted increase in sales/offers.

But frequency is still unpredictable as I have noticed that 3 - 4 months could go by without any sales or enquiry and the next month would see 4 - 5 sales coming in all at once. This is from a portfolio of around 250 names. Maybe the irregularity can be attributed to portfolio size.

Having said that, I have been selling for better prices this year even though I envisaged some economic crises (which is already playing out) in my prediction for 2022 earlier this year.

I had a great results in the first three months of 2022 then things slow down with below average STR in April and now bad first half of may with only 1 sale.

Very strong decline. It has been 3 weeks of very slow sales and even inquiries. I used to have 1-2 inquiries everyday and I could close 60-70% of those based on how hard I want to get on the negotiations, but that has trickled down to alarmingly low levels.

This is the first time I am a bit anxious in about a year.

PS: I had very good sales till the third week of last month, and I had a record April.

The situation of ngtlds is even worse. Now there are only some low price offers, the main markets are obviously shrinking.

I used to get 1-2 inquiries per day on Uniregistry when I switch there. No action at all. The lack of action and interest is the thing that worries me most.

Hi

what indicators are indicating this
and
are there other indicators, that indicate something else?

2 years ago, demand for certain domain categories was higher than for others and in that span of time,
that demand for those names has basically been filled.
for instance, demand for cannabis, leaf, weed names was pretty high and crypto, coin, wallet names were rising
now it's nft, web3, dcentral, etc.
if you go back further it was Chips

once the top tier, premium and the very good from each category has been bought or sold, then what's left goes stagnant or dies if you missed the boat

trends have been driving a demand that makes it look "strong", when in fact, those are just spikes and peaks in the steady flow of domain transactions.

just be ready for the next one

imo...

So no hope for those left holding crypto and Blockchain names them? The ship has sailed.

Making lots of "domainer" type sales. Highest offers right now are $500, so sometimes I go for it. Just sold F.a.s.t.T.r.a.i.l.e.r.s.c.o.m yesterday, but for $500. Hold time was just two weeks on a handreg so money like that is nice.

Hi

i'd say
if you have a domain that could be used for that category, that doesn't have crypto or blockchain in the name -
then your chances of a sell might be higher than those holding those keyword names.

and that might be the same for nft or web3, if not now, but for sure down the road.

still, you know all that depends on actual names in question.
as a crypto/block name with traffic or one with exceptional keyword pairing can still be appealing.

i only bought one crypto kw name, where seller claimed traffic/rev, but it turned out to be link/referral traffic and haven't purchased any block kw names.

though i did sell one name (4 L.com) which was used as nft site,
but it didn't contain "nft" as a keyword.

imo...

Buy 4 letters for 2k each and put 50k price tag and forget, buy 50 names and definitely you will sell 1-2 a year :) that’s what I am doing .. I have around 50, cool 4 letter names

Wow, still zero (!) inquiries on Uniregistry. Anyone else experience this using inquiry Uni landers? It's really bad, I used to have 1-2 daily as I said.

I have noticed a considerable decline in my sales too, during the last 2 months.
But if you see the reposted sales in name bio, during the past month, the 3 last months and the last year, it seems that there is no decline.

Sharp drop in last 30days - 2months! I think its reflected of world economy and uncertainty.

Gas/oil up, Food up, Housing up, War in Ukraine, inflation ...stock market drop /crypto market dropped

Had a strong start of the year with offers up till April/Spring....it's been slow and quite since

Hang tight and HODL
