With all major 3-Character TLDs gone and prices so high, while many 3-C .ORG are available, could it become the next option for businesses that do not want to invest a fortune on a domain? It is true that many business people are reluctant to use a .org for a business model... But I think many will, given the circumstances. What do you think?

The interest in "three character' domains in the other extensions (com and net) isn't motivated by interest from business.
It's motivated by other 'domainers' who've fabricated an imaginary market based on fictitious precepts of worth/value that itself is driven almost solely by the next greater fool.

This even includes the 'ultimate' in domainers domains, random LLL.com's, that have no utility as a relevant acronym or poses any sort of ulterior "meaning" other than being short. It's not good to try and position yourself ahead of a trend that itself is based on very foolish rudiments.

Cliff Notes: No.

I don't think so at all.

Any reason why they should be?

Think Dongsman has it right with his observations. :)

I dont see any real value on three meaningless hard to market LLL.com/.net/.org

Like Dongsman, I also believe that is domainer's selfmade fad, and the bubble will puncture soon or later.

Unless it's a marketable brand name that carries some special meaning, I don't think there's any potential in a 3 character .org domain meant for long term investment. As mentioned by dongsman, it's what you call fictitious precepts of worth.

The 'next big thing' threads sound like where do we go when we missed the boat. Random CCC.tld carry no meaning, therefore no particular value other than being short.

Was .org ever the big thing??

I agree. And the same thing is taking place with "3D" names.

3 character .org the next big hype should be the right title of this thread.

As long as there are buyers, then yes, it will become 'the net big thing.' BUT... to whom shall this trend affect? Answer: resellers. It is the general thought that if LLL.coms are worth thousands and LLL.net are worth mid-high $XXX then LLL.org is the obvious 3rd best and would be a market one should invest in if the other 2 are too high in price to dabble in. But what will likely happen is resellers/domains overpaying for a bunch of domains that they can't sell to endusers and would then resell them to the next fool who'll unsuccessfully attempt to achieve what the first owner couldn't. If you can get LLL.org cheap, you could flip them for a little profit but no, they won't take off or anything. They'll obviously become the next big thing but only in the eyes of resellers. They'll be pretty much nothing in the eyes of businesses.

But to add, since I didn't quite touch upon it, CCC.orgs might never take off, considering CCC.com's are obtained for $100-250 each and CCC.net sometimes can't sell for $20 each.

LLL.org - Maybe.
CCC.org - No.

Just for something different, a CNN...i regged i68.org recently, not exactly a ccc or lll.org. It's the model of some sort of a sciphone (whatever that is)...don't think they've come to australia yet. Anyway 9m google and estibot value (for what its worth) is $4.2K. Thought its worth the $7 to reg it on the off chance its worth something. If not, who cares!!

Agreed on the LLL.org's and NNN.org's (which I have sold in the past, quite successfully) long-term potentials (versus random CCC.org's) ... and Dongsman should get Post of the Dayยฉ / Monthยฉ above, IMHO. :great:

Best,
Jeff B-)

CCC.orgs seem to be quite a speculative investment currently from what you said OP.i am sure LLL.orgs and nnn.orgs are gaining in value. When last were people selling good ones on np? :)'
