Hi
I am learning a lot here on NP , and what's great is that people are very open in sharing their knowledge with the community.
But, I think it's difficult to get a good price or even an appraisal at NP.
My domain, Wha8.com is at Sedo auctions and sitting at $700 bid whereas I was told here that it's not even worth the registration fees !!
Plus a lot of people have approached me privately from India and China after viewing the listing on Sedo with low $x,xxx offers but I told them to bid on sedo alone, so this price can increase.

Is the appraisal thing depends person to person?
Or is it that since people in India pronounce it as 'What' and not in other countries, they only see the value?

Fyi: the domain Wha8.com is redirecting to the auction. Keep watching :)

Hi,

there is an unfortunate tendency to appraise almost everything as crap/worthless/grace delete etc and I guess that's the reason why many have stopped asking for appraisals and opinions.

To be honest I think I too would have never given wha8 such value....all it matters though is that someone is willing go buy it for that price. Learn and use that money wisely!!!

Good luck.

Firstly congrats on your first bid for the domain , wish you get more bids soon. Second , about the appraisal thing , I guess most domainers here appraise the names according to what they have seen in the market in the previous years , if it's premium you will get an accurate appraisal , but if it's a simple domain , you will be told it's worthless but don't let that stop you from trying to look for an end user , the "worthless" appraisal you got means don't hold it for too long (+3 years) or try to sell it to another domainer. Congrats again and good luck

by the way @Hemanttilotia , I noticed you hold almost 6000 domain names. Why not instead of buying those type (LLLN.com and NLLL.com and 8N.com) names (or renewing them) you get a premium or few better names ?

I got some good ones as well...just thought to diversify.
Was looking for one words, but couldn't get at desired price.
Plus look at namebio, n other places, Chinese r going after domains ending in '8'...most of those names don't ring a bell to me..
Anyway, it's a speculator market and I got this one real cheap.

just did a check on Google translate.

your letters are WHA

the 8 is good number so Chinese will definitely love and it's at thee end. and it's 4 characters.

the 8 at thee end counts as +1 not +8.

since of all the numbers 8 is the best to the chinese. if you had any other number besides 8 a Number in a domain counts as +8.

the letters each count as +21 each.

(for China market there are no chinese words that start with a,e,u,i,o,v)

so Wha8 equates (at least to the chinese as)

21x21X21X1 = 9,261 possible permutations for LLLN.com that's RARE.

plus your domain is somewhat brandable.

Ha can mean the list below.

Translations of 哈

noun

laughing
笑, 笑声, 哈

laughter
笑声, 笑, 哈

yawn
哈欠, 哈

pug
哈, 足迹, 泥料, 狮子鼻

sycophant
巴儿狗, 哈, 阿谀者, 拍马屁的人

toady
哈, 拍马屁的人

The W can mean. Well wg in pinyin translates to China.

or World.

or it can mean "i"

so....Wha can mean "i laugh 8"

also Wha is close to "sound" as Hua which means Flower.

I think there is a kind of market for NLLL and LLLN .com domains. I don't think these have any value in western cultures. Hence your zero appraisals here on NP. Clearly there is as market if you have a $700 bid on Sedo and email offers of low $x,xxx. You are wise to not accept those email offers, because you are committed to selling this domain on Sedo. I presume that is what you told the other email contacts. However I would email them with your lists of NLLL/LLLN and ask them to make offers on anything they like :)

Have faith in the wisdom of crowds, they usually nail it. You’ll notice a predictable pattern in many appraisal threads. Hand reg name gets posted, appraisers eviscerate it, OP either swallows the bitter medicine or reports a surge of interest not seen since the beanie baby. Good luck!

Maybe most people saw this domain in the NP marketplace where you bought it, and didnt want to give an opinion on the domain. Hardly a long list of appraisers on the domain.

Let us know if it hits the reserve.

@Avtar629 : thank you. That's a great analysis.

@stub : I have a couple others like FWD8 and OPP8 dot kings
But, sedo is a great platform and it's better to list them there than to take some low email offers.

Something about those combinations in asian culture. I recently had a nice $xxx sale of an LNNN on NameSilo. It even ended in 4!

best to keep emailing and reminding your low $xxxx email offers especially after each bid.

if you did not tell them how much the highest bid is already. start telling them a low offer below that $700. tell them you already have like 88 offers and the current highest is $88.

I know. I know it's a "white lie". but anything to get them to your live auction page.

If you have any other domains that you aren't too "confident" and will probably delete anyways. offer it to them as a "special bonus" only for them.

I think that email offer not converting into a Sedo auction bid is a missed opportunity.

These names weren't bought from NP users but from Godaddy expired auctions.

I got some too but mine were NNNNL.com's

true mine is longer (5L) and not brandable like Wha8.com but for rarity numbers are great
mine also had two 8's so each 8 counts as +1

so the count would be 8x1x8x1x21 = 1344 possible permutations in .com that's rare.

you gotta love those 8's!

those 8's can turn a 6N domain into a 5N domain or 4Character domain at least in value in some cases.

and if you have all 8's? well that count is 1+1+1+1+1+1= 6 possible permutations. as 8 really thee number that counts the most to the chinese.

so when you sell numerics to the chinese. don't forget to bring a calculator to your listing description.

Hi, thanks a lot. Will definitely put that up if it doesn't sell now. That's really very beneficial for my other domains.
Bidding has reached at $1900 now.

I posted it on my LinkedIn, asked friends in China to like n post as well..Hope it reaches a good buyer.
I reached out to a couple of Chinese brokers, one replied that it can fetch around $18K-20K.
My reserve is way less than that :)

Why are you saying "if it doesn't sell now" if it's on auction at Sedo. It will sell to the highest bidder.

If it doesn't meet the reserve, it will not sell. But, wish to list it later if that would be the case or may settle for those who emailed the offers.
