bob e - January 7th, 2010 at 8:09 pm PST hehe i own macproguide.com โ€“ come on lousy apple โ€“ come after me!

K - January 8th, 2010 at 4:49 am PST I own iphonessuck.com I wonder if theyโ€™ll come after me. I doubt it with the negative publicity theyโ€™d end up with.

WARNING, this site is RUDE!

I dunno about Macproguide but I don't think Apple can do anything about Iphonesuck.com
Also just take note that those may not be the actual owners but competitors that want Apple to sue off their competitors asses :red:

Good point!

But anyone stupid enough to make sites like this is probably also stupid enough to post about it IMO.

:] Amen!

...but I don't see how a simple name like iPodbarbatos can be wanted by Apple.com ?

Stupidity, isn't it?

This is SyntheticRhyme of eBay fame. I've seen that MacBookPro domain of his in the past and figured this was only a matter of time.

It's pretty shocking to see the overwhelming support of TM domains in their comments. They could be a case study as to why so many domainer noobs see nothing wrong with TM domains.

Not enough condemnation of the practice by people who know better. Out and out Tm domains including brands like Apple are one thing, typo's of brands are another. Both are designed to do the same thing. ie. steal someone elses traffic.
Why don't search engines, parking companies, domainers etc make a concerted effort to wipe the practice out ?
Simple. They are making vast amounts of money from the practice.

Registrars are making vast amounts of money from the practice too. They couldn't (afaik) legally prevent anyone from registering names with well-known marks, but if they made the slightest attempt to educate/warn they could probably deter some clueless noobs from heading down that path.

Two of the domains seem like stretch, are mac and pod registered? They must use content to prove the apple connect of mac, if the site macfriend featured burgers, they might have other problems?

macfriend.com
redipods.com

I heard somewhere that ebay sends out an immediate warning when any domain containing ebay appears. Say hotelbythEBAY.com

If he simply owned iphonesucks then I am sure that Apple would not have been able to seize the domain name but in context of it being a part of a collection of domain names that he owned that infringed Apples trademark I think they were quite right in being able to seize it.

If you register domains that infringe a companies trademark you have to accept that you will likely lose them.

are mac and pod registered?
Apple is aggressive towards anything pod that is technology related, and that includes websites that are not specifically about tech topics.

Lots of stupidity in that thread. It shows us how those outside the domaining world really have no clue.

I don't think the problem was what the domains were but the amount of domains that had even distant ties to Apple. Just what I think anyway.

The use of the full Trademarked term ie 'ipod' + any generic word would satisfy the confusion part of the claim. For example ' ipodbanana '.

Apple doesn't want ipodbarbatos.com - it's not registered. Apple filed and won a NAF complaint for ipodsbaratos.com, Spanish translation = cheap ipods. Side note - losing respondent Bijan is still listed in whois as registrant.

yes registrars are definitely making a lot of money by not providing some decent info re tm infringement! that said, all it takes is to spend 5minutes reading abt regging and buying domains and it's always at the top of the list.. i'm sure the guy knew what he was doing.. probably just hoping he'd get lucky

:guilty: my bad.

I didn't know it meant cheap iPods.

Thanks, ecalc!
