Any other tenure domainers take the dotAsia plunge?

I have been domaining for over 4 years and have made $xx,xxx reselling domains. I decided to make a respectable size dotAsia purchase based on a lot of research and a bit of risk.

The domain's keyword is Anime followed by the extension.

(Please note that I just won the auction for this domain)

A little piece about the Anime Industry:

The anime industry has grown significantly in the last few years, especially outside of Japan. It has spread rapidly across the world, especially with a major increase in the licensing of various series, movies, and OAVs at an increased rate across various regions, and the rise of the anime network,

Animax, acknowledged as the largest 24-hour anime-only network in the world, broadcasting its anime programming across Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, The Philippines, Southeast Asia, the entire Indian subcontinent, Latin America and South Korea.

Sounds like dotAsia's target market doesn't it?

What dotasia domains have you secretly aquired?

I think this is one of the most comprehensible .asia acquisitions, since anime is very popular and strongly linked with Asia.
I am still very unsure about the extension, but at least the keyword is super-strong and fits the extension well.
Makes a lot more sense than Lasvegas.asia

Sounds like an excellent choice/market/gamble to me (if the extension does take off ???)

I'd sit on that baby for a few years and follow all the other .asia sales

If anyone makes an offer in the meantime, just ask a really crazy price for it ;) you never know if you don't ask. Just keep in mind that most the industry veterans did'nt get rich by selling their domains off quickly.

(yeah, I know, they did'nt invest in anything but .com either ;) )

..may the force be with you Jedi :tu:

ps - I did'nt buy any .asias

Beware of stereotypes and make sure the keyword actually means something to your target audience. Somebody poured a lot of money into sushi.asia but the Japanese meaning seems to be quite different than in the rest of the world :)

I purchased about 5 .asias and 4/5 were vanity names/initials. I did buy 1 however that goes well with .asia (IMHO) - T-V. Asian t-v in N. America is big business on and off the web so my small gamble was worth the risk I believe but only time will tell.

Now with your anime...I would definitely develop it as its such a strong keyword while waiting for an enduser. Good luck with it and keep everyone updated on what you do with it.

Anime is pretty much called 'anime' in asian countries so don't worry about it. :kickass:

What do they call sushi in Japan? :o

Imho, you chose a relevant category, but overall .asia is too long (like .mobi). also .jp is the standard in Japan for example and uniting all of Asia could be a difficult proposition. We passed on this extension and will not look back.

I keep hearing the 'too long' argument for 4 char extns, but i dont really buy it imho. What you're saying is people dont want to type one more character than a .com for example (presumably 3 chars is ok?). That just makes no sense to me at all...also, do not buy .asia expecting type-ins - it just wont happen unless you build and brand the site.

You wont make anything from .asia parked, at least not for a long time, if ever. Develop them and you'll see the true potential. They get indexed amazingly fast, way faster than any of my .com sites, and do REALLY well in search results rankings. A name like anime.asia would blitz the page results for sure if you develop it well and optimize the **** out of it.

I think its a great buy. I was in on that auction too but couldn't justify the cash :(

anime is taking off as well here in our country and also via tv, radio, and t-shirts, and toys, and almost everything from caps to mugs, even books.

even elementary and high school here are dressing like anime. (spiked-uncombed hair, etc)

Back to the OP's original question...

Yes, I'm in .asia...

I have:

Oil.asia
Cruise.asia
Banks.asia
Currency.asia
Doctors.asia
STD.asia
Carer.asia
Reinvest.asia
Gynaecology.asia
Gynaecologist.asia
Hypnotist.asia
Cartoonists.asia
Phonecodes.asia

...among others.

I agree with scriptfodali....Parking is unlikely to return much....Development & promotion has a good chance of building value, I'd say - And, the pot of gold, imo, is finding major end users with an aggressive Asia strategy to sell them to, in time.

We'll see...

liveforex.asia
moron.asia
nite.asia
invester.asia

i have rejected 3 bids of mid xxx for liveforex

i had got a bid on it just after 3 days of buying it well so i do think in cmoing years it might have good value

and you have one of the excellent domains

yah agree .... how would ppl complaint about 3 vs 4 ext ...
I sold few dot asia domain to my client, even higher prices then dot com ....
cause my client (malaysia base), they think dot asia sound nicer and better then dot com, dot com sound like a computer and asia sound like their territory and the market they aim ... :)

.
Like one of my client, they own H******.com.my, they don't even think of buying the dot com version cause they din't realize, they can buy it back by counter offer and also their previous web solution trying be smart (cut and save cost) ....... end up their new web solution offer them a H******.asia and they accept it ... :)

There is a lot of potential buyer for dot asia, we just need time to locate them and sell directly to them .....

How much are you hoping to fetch for these dot asia domains?

If I were to seriously market & flip them right now, I'm fairly certain I would find someone, somewhere, to pay:

* Solid $xx,xxx for each of Oil.asia, Cruise.asia, Banks.asia, Currency.asia, Doctors.asia (remember LasVegas.asia just re-sold for $30,000).

* High $x,xxx, or possibly low $xx,xxx, for STD.asia

* Solid $x,xxx for each of Carer.asia, Reinvest.asia, Gynaecology.asia, Gynaecologist.asia, Hypnotist.asia, Cartoonists.asia, Phonecodes.asia

If, on the other hand, I proactively researched, shortlisted, and professionally presented, a case for each of Oil.asia, Cruise.asia, Banks.asia, Currency.asia, and Doctors.asia, to just the right corporate end user for each of them - now - then, I'm fairly confident I'd eventually find a buyer for each of them in the $xxx, xxx range (remember Cruise.co.uk recently went for $750,000, for example - and the Cruise business to/in Asia is huge).

If I can add value to these names - then, in a few short years - well...We could be talking enormous numbers, to the right end-users, I think.

The rest of the names listed, I believe, will be worth more in time.
