Today, I had visited a local New York City bar for my friend's book release and signing party; however, upon arrival, I was not allowed to enter, as I am under the drinking age in the United States.
Now, I do not drink. Even if I could, I would not. Also, I was there for my friend, so I was not going to take no for an answer.
I had a little conversation with the bar's owner and he stated that, New York State law does not allow anyone under the age of 21 into a bar. I argued that, in New York State/City, or any state for that matter, you only have to be 18+ to bartend, and that what he was saying, contradicts that. Of course, I still did not get in. I understood that he was just protecting himself, but I was still a bit upset.
I did some looking around and I simply cannot find a law in any state โ none the less New York State or City โ , that restricts someone under 21 from being in a bar, but of course, I can find plenty that restrict the consumption or purchasing of alcohol by minors.
Now, I am questioning if there is any law at all.
Do any of you guys/gals have an answer?
