"Amedico which was using a new gTLD Amedico.life has upgraded and acquired its EMD Amedico.com also at Sedo. They paid $9,000 to do so, which was a pretty good deal IMO!"

It only cost them $9K to move a brandable, made up word from a relatively unknown new extension to .com, which I think is money well spent in this case. We've seen this happen, and will continue to see it happen if and when the price is right and the buyer can afford to make the move.

What do you think?

That's why I hate to say it but it's true: not having a dot com isn't an option for a company. Even Craigslist.org owns Craigslist.com

The Wayback Machine has the first sighting of the .com as Jan. 2002. It was being used as a portal for medical professionals during that year. But it seems they gave up on it by year's end.

It appears to have dropped in 2010 and was picked up right away.

Surprisingly, there are many SERPS with the term "amedico".

You are comparing the wrong domains! :)

End users do whatever they want, they register what they want.

www.kidshealthyfood.life
www.ezbatteryrecondition.life
www.intelligentlydesigned.life
www.thestarbarnvillage.life ...examples are registered yesterday.

Amedico.life - $39 Amedico.com - $9000 So what?

Try to compare the prices of my .life domains with similar domains in .com

Sex.Life -... $108 Sex.com - $13,000,000
Porno.Life - $36 Porno.com - $8,888,888
Game.Life - .$36 Game.com - $3,400,000
Money.Life - $36 Money.com - ????????

Can you afford these .coms? :-,

Ask AOL Inc. WTF! Why did you register Fashion.Life? Why didn't you buy Fashion.com?

You are comparing something that is attainable like a random brand in .COM to something that is not like the best of the best generic terms in .COM.

If I was a serious company I would rather pay $9K for my brand in .COM than settle for a worse option.

I don't really think that means anything when it comes to a generic term like Sex.life, which is a good domain itself but still not comparable to .COM. Much of the value of those generic .COM are going to be the massive natural traffic they receive.

@New.Life - To my point, if you could afford sex.com would you rather have that over your sex life? I would think so. Plus, there's really no comparison between the examples you gave because to Brad's point, sex, porno, game or money to the left of the dot stand alone as "natural" with .com.

There will never be any natural traffic to porno, game or money life. People don't talk like that.

If Amedico is going to have to spend money to brand and market their made up name, which they are, their money will be better spent all the way around using .com.
