Hi everyone,

This is the fifth post of the Afternic experiment series after I published January, February, March and April results which I’m hopeful that some of my readers find it interesting.

It was really a roller coaster ride for the last month. For the first 9 days, I’d NO sale but I was confident of having at least a few before the month ends.

The 10th day, I’d my first sale in the shape of Bautagebuch.com which sold for $1,988 via Reseller partner. That’s when things started to change and ended May with 9 sales via Afternic. Seems there is some coincidence that for the first 9 days there was no sale and in the entire month, I sold 9 domains altogether. One more domain was sold via Reseller partner AllSan.com for $1,988.

There were 3 domains altogether which sold via GoDaddy cart:

LemonSoul.com for $3,988.
3Fit.com for $6,888.
ConnectFit.com
for $6,888.

There were 4 sales via Afternic cart which many times include negotiation before the sale strikes.

Luxium.com for $7,500 – I believe of selling this domain for lower price just in order to keep the cash flow coming. Not because who the buyer is, as that never really matters to me. I always valuate according to my valuations. I’d a BIN of $9,888 on this domain but eventually sold for the above price after the broker gave his best.

RiverDelta.com – This was another smooth sale with a BIN of $6,888.

RtElectric.com – I’d a BIN of $3,988. Broker came in and presented an offer of $2,392. Strange amount but may be it was a round figure in a different currency. After pushing the buyer to revise his offer, the best and final offer was $3,000 which I’d thought of accepting the minimum as well. And the deal got strike on this one!

WFH.CO – The biggest individual sale of this month for me via Afternic was of $9,888. I must admit of forgetting to update the price on this domain and selling it very cheaply. As WFH (Work From Home, Working From Home) term has got super hot these days and I forgot of having such valuable domain sitting in my portfolio.

I came to know when the offer came in where the buyer originally offered $2,500 and then $3,500, $5,500 and finally $6,500 and I was presented the $6,500 on 27th May and I remained firm on $9,888 and also said this BIN is valid until the end of May and I’ll increase the price significantly after that.

In next 48 hours, the domain was sold and buyer got a great deal here. Although I’m very happy with each and every sale but and not shedding tears on this one. But the purpose of sharing all this detail on this specific domain sale is to keep ourselves updated as much as possible and adapt to the change.

Above 9 domain acquisition cost was just under $2,000. Total sale amount was whopping $49,016‬. One of the best thing in last month was there were a good number of domains sold. Another thing was with no 5 figure sale, still the total amount of sales was almost 50K!

After trying Afternic landers for the last 5 months, I can clearly say that their landers are performing very well compare to Uniregistry landers. Also with Fast Transfers enabled for Uniregistry domains, I’m seeing better results for my portfolio. As you can see above, 2 domains were sold via Reseller registrar of Afternic. Also 4 domains via Afternic cart which means their brokers are efficiently working to strike the deal. Overall, I’m satisfied with results. But this doesn’t mean Uniregistry landers or their brokers aren’t good. They’re absolutely one of the best brokers I’ve ever worked with.

On the other hand, I received a little over 650 inquiries in total last month whereas in April I got almost 600 inquiries. This include multiple inquiries for the same domain(s).

Thank you for the insight. I’ve been considering moving all my domain landers to afternic, setting a bin and floor price, and just letting their brokers handle everything.

I wouldn't call this an experiment.

What a real experiment would look like.

1. Make a price request on your domain while pretending to be a serious third party , and check how fast you get that request on your side. And then try to buy it as third party, and check how AN agents would handle it. Do they lowball at Sedo or not?

2. List your domain at AN and Sedo. And backorder the domain at Godaddy, while pretending to be a big company. Watch how Godaddy agents would handle it. Would they look at your listing at AN? Would they lowball at Sedo? Do you get price request? Do you get email via whois? If you are contacted by more than one agent, play with both.

3. Pretend to be a major company, show your interest in one of your junk domains, then drop the domain, check whether it is backordered.

4. List your domain with with 500 BIN at Sedo. Then go to Godaddy as serious third party and offer 5K. Check whether they buy your domain for 500 at Sedo, and if they do, do they pay or not?

1. I wouldn't try that way at all. If I trust an someone, be it a person or an organization, I prefer to give freehand. They've been presenting only solid offers and no lowball offers to date since I've put up BIN, Floor, Reserve and Minimum prices on almost all domains. In short, trying that method seems unethical to me.

2/3. I don't like to play such low level games and see how it works for me. As far as things are working out in my favor, I don't need to go that way... in any case.

If I suspect they are playing games, I would test it (maybe), but they know you never accept lowballs, so they don't bother.

There are flippers (frontrunners) in this game, so when they see there is a buyer, they lowball elsewhere ,.. how do I know it, because I get offers on the same domain from different countries at the same time, and lots of such things.. What is the source of such leads, obviously at least one of such buyers is a flipper. I wonder where such people get their data from..

Let me tell one thing after which I hope you'll be more clear with Afternic.

If you keep domains with Make Offer option with no or low minimum, most of the time you'll receive lowball offers.

If you keep domains with BIN and set minimum close to BIN or more than half of BIN price, you'll never receive lowball offers... At least, I've never received it after that.

I've tested both options for long time and sharing this with my personal experience.

I'm not against lowballs. I just want to know who I'm negotiating with. If the bidder is offering 200 max, but there is an enduser offering 2K to that flipper, I don't want to sell. Endusers go to Godaddy directly, and don't visit the domain. Then I get lowballs at Sedo. I mean, something like this might be happening all the time. Otherwise, things don't make much sense... Dan is like Sedo in this sense, people offer lowballs, 500 max, but usually around 100. People offer 5 figures, but never pay. There must be a way to bypass all these flippers, and negotiate with actual endusers, but listing at Afternic doesn't seem to help much. If my BIN is 10K, but floor is 500, is there a chance that it can sell for 3K, I doubdt it.

Why do you want to bother who the enduser is, what their budget is, etc.
Simply do your research of your domain considering all the possible factors you can think off, decide a price, and put up the same BIN on all marketplaces like Afternic and Sedo. Also keep the Floor/Reserve price more than half of BIN and this will automatically eliminate all lowball offers. Also you'll be able to sell the domain at your desired price or in your desired price range.
