As I imagine is the case for lots of new people coming in to the industry, I over-reached slightly this month and ended up disappointed with a couple of sales-- jumped in with both feet and spread myself too thin. I broke even, but I know they were worth far more and my lack of patience got the better of me. LESSON LEARNED.

Any way, that kind of prompted me to take a bit of a step back and reevaluate my approach and leading on from that, happy to report a nice wee sale this evening.

s/o/f/t/p/h/o/n/e.io sold at Flippa for $1004, transfer completed on both sides.
    Hand reg
    Held it for 36 days

It's not going to pay off the mortgage, but a nice little bit of cash and a few lessons learned that are worth their weight in gold.

Thanks to everyone that's helped me out with advice so far, much appreciated.

    This stuff is fun.

    Hey thanks.

It was a $1 reserve auction on Flippa. 14 days

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Softphone

Lots of telecommunications firms use it as a sort of "gateway product" for bringing clients on to their books or to generate market awareness, after which they will look to upsell clients on to more complex unified comms and VoIP packages. Companies like Avaya, Grandstream, 8X8 etc. all offer them (plus a ton of smaller ones, some of whom bid on this asset).

I use one every day and deal with some of the companies mentioned above in my 9-5 so I knew there was value in it.

Oh okay!! But it is extension .io I could see good value in .com or .net with the same name but none the less good sale! I’ve let many .io domains pass me by for reg fee that we’re single word high value ones because I have trouble selling that extension

.io is perfect for a tech SME in that space in my opinion and about 100th of the price for that SLD.

It was a good fit for the sort of companies I pointed in the direction of the auction.

    (plus a bit of luck)

from what I've researched, .io extensions are great for tech start ups.

Congrats on the sale price. I have a few .io domains, most generic one word or two word.

Yeh the $50 one. In hindsight it was a waste of money as this was really too niche for it to have any effect I think. All the bidders came directly from outbound.

    Well done mate.

I saw Softphone.io on Flippa yesterday and two things came to mind:

    1) Surprised it was available to handreg last month.
    2) I think you got a really great price on it.

I can tell you're not lazy, so I would assume there was some outbound emails sent that directed a number of possible end-users to the auction.

I think you're a very fast learner and I don't see that too often.

Thanks Josh, that's very much appreciated.

Yeah there was a fair bit of outbound as there are lots of businesses in that space. Fairly specific in terms of target persona though. COO, CEO, CMO and some at director level or above with SEO listed as a skill on LinkedIn.

What tools do you use for outbound? Something to bring out the proper email addresses as i notice most who.is may direct the mails to a different department, also Something to track down the email opens etc?

I am using hunter.io at the moment for email addresses-- (although I am considering other options at the moment like salestools.io) and also mailtrack.io for mail tracking.

I was marketing a Cloud based domain to a bunch of Cloud server tech companies this morning. I did notice that some of these companies did have the .io extension. Thanks for the info! I had never considered .io's at all.
